Went here for lunch. First thing that hit me as we walked in was the smell of bleach -a bit like a swimming pool . It's nice to know that the place is kept clean but a bit off putting when having a meal. My overwhelming impression was of a place that looks a bit tired and not very cosy and inviting. The carpet looked faded, the menus were slightly grubby and nobody greeted us as we came in the door. As a vegetarian I didn't feel very inspired by the menu as the only options I could see were sandwiches or baked potatoes. From the outset I'm biased. Having said that I love back street pubs and discovering them. This one of my favourites, even better I'm local to it. Tom great landlord of the old school. Great cellar, for maybe only a few real ales but never had a bad one. Food at reasonable rates, excellent quality. The building is very welcoming l, split between public and saloon with a real Victorian craved screen. Fabulous out door drinking in expensive comfortable seating and your bound to find a conversation from one of the clientele or at least a lick from one of the nicest pub dogs iv ever met (canine) haha.
