This is quite a gem food-wise. A good selection on the menu and most people will find something to suit them. It seems very popular and is only just off a main road so access is good. It seems to have a good mix of...local people and visitors and a good atmosphere. The meals were VERY good with good portion sizes and well presented and the premises was well decorated and clean including the toilets. Initially, the service was OK if slightly rushed pushy but it went somewhat awry later on. We asked for two puddings but only one arrived as the waitress didn't seem to listen properly but even then it might have warranted a to just maybe a five as, after considerable wait another did arrive, but once we were finished it was impossible to get the bill. The waitresses were far too busy chatting to a friend at the far side of the bar and even though I turned right round and looked straight at the shorter girl who had been our waitress several times, all she did was smile at me and then carry on chatting to her friends. One of the people on the next table, who by then were wanting puddings, actually had to get up and go over to the bar to ask for service ! Once that had been done I again looked at the waitress but she again just smiled and carried on talking. Eventually, we gave up and decided to go and ask for the bill. Upon being asked if everything was ok, I replied Other than being a pudding short and not being able to get the bill, yes The waitress seemed a bit put-out and said Well, you should have waved at me to come over I said that I shouldn't have to and that would normally be considered rude and she then just looked a bit blank. If their service was better ie. not so rushed initially and completely non-existent later then they would warrant a five rating.

The location is actually Hawkser a couple of miles out of Whitby on the way to Robin Hoods Bay. Our hosts at The Wayfarer in Robin Hoods Bay recommended this to us and we were very pleased to find it. The pub style is country...classic. per couple for two succulent sirloin steaks served with delicious chips and traditional grilled tomatoes and mushrooms on the side. A bottle of house wine is included in the price and the Shiraz we chose was spot on with the meal. We opted to add a portion of garlic prawns and peppercorn and blue cheese sauces which perfectly complimented our exceptionally tasty food. There is a large dessert menu but we were simply too full to the brim to indulge further. The regular menu is extensive and has plenty to offer all dietary requirements and childrens options too

What a find, it was our friends Anniversary so I rang the pub asked If we could leave a cake and balloons for a surprise, no problem They tell me, went for the meal they brought the cake out with plates And a knife to...cut it with. Unfortunately our meal in the restaurant was so filling we couldn’t eat The cake. The service by the girls was fantastic they were doing the bar serving The meals with no bother at all. The meal itself was very good, we all had soup to start home made leek potatoe Very tasty. I had the steak and ale pie delicious. All the meals were very tasty. Would recommend a visit, book in advance as it was full.

Found this pub today when the usual pub we frequent in Whitby was full. We rang and got a table at short notice. We both had the burger which was delicious and succulent with a generous portion of home made chips and coleslaw. Friendly service,...dogs are welcome too. Good value, will come vack!
