first, my main handle was the menu situation. from the website it looked like there was a choice of English or Indian, but at the arrival was told the Indian menu, the only available. I had lammrogan josh, which was ok when a little bland. I had kartoffeln with what was a nice note. the chicken corma of my friend was boiled over with not enough sauce (in our opinion) it was offered a free drink, but went back because we wanted to get out because the room was a little cool. total disappointing
The Hatch gate offers what I consider to be very good food, at a reasonable price. Service is good and there is a free drink after your meal (great touch). As this is a bar as well as a restaurant there is plenty of adult drinks (as well as a good selection of soft drinks). Hence we make very good use of the bus that stops directly outside the pub . (last one around 11 ish into Reading Town) Will be back again soon.
the venue is unloved and unloved. service was sporadic and lack of quality. furniture was worn (a chair on our table was broken.) the menus provided were confusing. Indian menu and food quality was great, however, if they can ignore all above and go only for eating its fine. I would not, however, go away from mine to have a meal there unless these problems were addressed.
We had reserved a table for Saturday night at the restaurant, but when we arrived, only two of us were dining. We were initially ignored for over five minutes, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise. Réservez une table maintenant
always good here ,book, try a none busy time whenever that is. Pub is next door happy with lots of locals. Restaurant quite separate and un hurried
excellent food and service. two menus English and inder. the garnels from the Indian menu and the lamb from the English were both fantastic.
