Usually a fantastic pub, and have been going for years with family. Under the old management it was the heart of the community with everyone feeling comfortable in any situation. Knowing this, we expected the same community pub even under the new management. A couple of weeks ago I began going with friends (we’re 17 a few weeks away from 18) playing pool and buying soft drinks. The last time we visited I bought myself a drink and another one of my friends. My other two friends didn’t want a drink at this specific time but were intending to buy one later on. It was before I paid for the two drinks that we were then made to feel unwelcome with the sentence “it isn’t a youth club” by the lady behind the bar. Had we been loud and out of hand I would have expected this remark, however for a group of four sat talking this was unnecessary and unwelcoming. Instead we gave up on the idea of playing pool, i did not take the drinks and we left. It saddens me to say that unfortunately the Hopwood arms is no longer the community pub it once was and we will not be using there services again.

There were 6 of us, 5 adults and a baby. We ordered our food and waited. We waited for 45 minutes. The food was average. Two orders of fish and chips, very small fish- £12.50 per person) One chicken burger , the 'crispy ' coating very hard, again a very small piece of chicken. £11.50) Cheese onion pie, chips, peas- £12.50, 'pie was mushy ' Jacket potato with beans £6.50) was 'okay ' The lasagne with garlic bread was ' nice ' All things considered we would not eat here again. There was no one else in the place so not sure why service took so long. No one came to ask how our food was and were we satisfied.

I really wish I hadn 't visited this pub for lunch. What a mistake. I hadn 't been there for 40 years, and won 't be going back. Fair 's fair, the two gammons ordered were ok, if you ignored the chips and peas. The homemade pie was atrocious. The whole meal had to be left uneaten. £45 for 3 meals, 2 cokes and a cup of tea, which was lovely...the best part of the meal.

We come here instead of the airport pub today and I am so glad we chose here not only are the children's facilities better but the staff are not only more attentive but they give a more family feel to the whole premises. As a licensee myself I could only hope I can get somewhere and some staff as appealing as here. Definitely my new local
