"We enjoyed a family meal at The Kings Head, which including two young children in our party. Although we waited a fair while, it was worth it. The food was good, the service was helpful and attentive. I also tried their rhubarb cider, which was...different, being flat, but so tasty. Just make sure you asked for ice to chill it. Altogether, a very enjoyable evening."

We originally booked The King's Head in early and have since had to rebook twice due to COVID restrictions. I was made aware in August two months before our stay that there was no longer a pub or restaurant available: we would still...be able to stay in the rooms but food and breakfast would be offered at The Blue Bell Inn. However, I was not expecting the level of neglect that we found on arrival at The Kings Head. We walked through the pub area downstairs which was cold and smelled of stale beer and up to our rooms. These too were very, very cold, with an electric wall heater that provided very little heat. The room was very small, the bathroom tiny and there was no hot water to the bathroom sink. Friends also staying reported loose window panes and there were gaps around the doors which let in the cold air from downstairs. In the evening, even though we'd been told that the pub was closed, we found that it was full of locals noisily enjoying the bar area. Service at The Blue Bell Inn in the evening and at breakfast was rather surly but the food was ok and we all enjoyed the breakfast, before waiting rather a long time for the sandwiches we'd ordered the night before. All in all, very disappointing.

The room was very cold, with an electric heater that was inadequate to heat the room even though it was small. The building is very old, and there are big gaps around the door where the heat was escaping, with the draft from the very...cold landing coming in. Our stay was early October, so when the winter sets in this wont be good. We were aware that the pub was closed at the time of the booking and this may have been part of the reason that the room was so cold, as there was no heating downstairs. The bathroom had no hot water and the shower fluctuated from scalding to freezing while in use. Boiling a kettle up to have a wash is not what you expect from a place described as high quality accommodation. Upon checkout, I was expecting to be asked if everything had been ok, as you usually are when you check out, and I planned to mention these matters. The only question I was asked was have you settled up My response of yes we had was clearly not convincing enough as I was then asked you have definitely paid in full then? Kettlewell is in a lovely location, but we were very disappointed with our choice of accommodation.

We attempted to stop for a lunchtime drink on the October, unfortunately the pub appeared shut. It would seem that the UK staff shortages have hit this once lovely pub. Just a small but important criticism needs to be highlighted as we walked...round the corner onto the bridge overlooking the beck that runs past the rear of the pub we witnessed lots of blue paper kitchen towelling being thrown out of the pub kitchen window needless to say we were NOT impressed by this wanton disregard of the local environment. We eventually went to eat at the Bluebell Inn later that afternoon which I can say was excellent.

Despite sending numerous emails and screenshots of my deposit payment and email confirmation of my booking I have still not received my deposits back for the two rooms I booked for my best friend's wedding this September. This mismanaged booking also meant I had to...camp for that weekend which was not what I wanted to be doing. Can I have the pounds you owe me please!
