The Magic Scoop General Store

The ice cream at this place is quite good, but the coffee leaves much to be desired. It seems like many families have been leaving reviews here! Unfortunately, the prices are extremely high. For instance, a 20 oz matcha (which I actually measured at 17 oz) costs over $8! The matcha wasn’t mixed or dissolved properly, leaving chunks at the bottom. It took two people to prepare it, and it was still undrinkable. While they did offer to remake it, we had already wasted so much time that we were running late. Overall, it’s a decent spot for tourists looking for overpriced ice cream, but not ideal for regular visits a few times a week.

What a hidden treasure! The ice cream here is simply amazing, freshly made in-store with a variety of stunning flavors, some of which can be taken home in pints. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is delightful, featuring both outdoor seating and windowfront views of the charming downtown Sulphur Springs. Additionally, the shop offers a great selection of gift and novelty items, making it a must-visit destination.

The only downside for me at Magic Scoop is the maze of retail items that take up a lot of space that could otherwise be used for seating, making navigation through the store a bit tricky. It's especially challenging to get to the bathroom when there are more than a few customers inside. Fortunately, the location on the square provides ample outdoor seating that isn't crowded.

The ice cream here is truly exceptional—everything is homemade, including the waffle cones. I tried the double espresso ice cream, and it was absolutely to die for! We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who is a lovely woman. They've been in business for seven and a half years, and I would highly recommend this place. There are countless ice cream flavors available, and the bourbon flavor is exceptional. They also offer several dairy-free options for anyone with a dairy allergy! The frappes and iced coffees are the best in town!
