On Friday, September 23rd, my son arranged a surprise celebration for my 80th birthday at The Manners Arms in Knipton. Upon our arrival, we were informed that a wedding reception was taking place and the only available table for us was in the crowded, noisy bar area. Despite booking a table in the restaurant, the manager showed little concern and did not attempt to address the issue. Disappointed with the customer service, my family and I decided to dine at the Martin Arms in Colton Bassett instead, where we enjoyed excellent food and service. This restaurant review is for a luxurious country inn owned and managed by the Duke and Duchess of Rutland, who also own Belvoir Castle. Located in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir, the inn offers a bar menu with main dishes priced around £8 to £10, as well as a restaurant that serves a three-course meal for around £22 excluding drinks. Guests can enjoy the lovely conservatory for seating, as well as a garden outside where they can relax with a pint of ale on a Sunday afternoon (note that Sunday lunchtime gets very busy!). For those looking to stay overnight, there are 10 rooms furnished with items from the castle.

I recently stayed at the hotel and enjoyed a delicious 3-course set meal for £18.50. The menu was on paper due to its ever-changing nature based on seasonal items. The meal was faultless, and the bar area had a good selection of real ales. The room, specifically the hunting room, was very nice with a comfortable bed, luxurious linens, and a lovely bathroom. The atmosphere at this restaurant is incredible, the menu is beautiful, and the food was perfect. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had an amazing dining experience and highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful family meal with a cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend dining there and will definitely be returning. The food was delicious.
