We were pleasantly surprised by our dining experience at this restaurant. The unique menu and cooking method over open fires caught our attention, and we were amazed by the entire experience. Located in a charming pub nestled in the picturesque hillside, we were greeted by friendly and accommodating staff. The sharing dishes we ordered were all outstanding - tasty, creative, and perfectly cooked. We savored a three-course lunch, paired with excellent beer, delicious dessert wine, and coffee. We have been meaning to visit this fabulous inn for sometime and given the fact they are moving on in January we simply had to go. We booked a hotel nearby as it’s a four hour round trip and boy was it worth it. From start to finish it’s fantastic the service is excellent and the eclectic fantastic dishes live up to their reputation as one of the country’s best gastro pubs the food is largely vegetarian with an ever changing menu. The beers and wines are great with lots of choices even a page dedicated to saki . Upstairs is their shop where you can buy the made in house crockery amongst other items. On this visit we ordered six dishes but would probably do four next time and we can’t wait go...
I had heard great things about this restaurant but nothing could have prepared me for the culinary delight that awaited me. It's not just about the delicious food, it's an experience for all the senses. The beautiful crockery is made on site, the restaurant is set in stunning countryside, and the staff are excellent. But the food, oh my god, the food... I can't stop thinking about it. The dishes are designed for sharing, which is a good thing because you'll want to try everything. The flavors in each dish are incredible, a true taste sensation. The only downside is that the restaurant is closing in January, which is a shame. If you appreciate exquisite food, you must visit this amazing place...

My husband and I popped in here on our way back from a weekend in Leeds. We were quickly shown to our table and provided with the days menu. I let them know I was pregnant and the chef provided me with an overview of the options safely available too me. We had pork belly, halloumi topped with walnut, cheese and leek crepe, beetroot and radish salad and wood fired potatoes. All were beautiful. We also opted for the nougat and shortbread dessert. It's a real pity this place is closing as we would love to have visited again if we were back in the area. We also popped up to the little shop and bought a few bits to take home with us.
Incredible place! The food is divine and exemplary, a different world of uniquely creative ideas using seasonal fresh produce from small scale producers, often even grown or foraged themselves! I’ve literally seen staff running down the road to pick extra berries for a dish before, it’s wonderful and easily in the top 3 places I’ve ever eaten! A firm favourite that’s right on my doorstep, a privilege, and one I’ll savour this year with it being their last : Try this place before it disappears into the abyss of folklore and memories, you will not be disappointed!!!
Although not perfect, this restaurant is quite extraordinary. There are a variety of uncommon dishes, most of which are successful. In addition to the abundance of smoked food, there is a generous use of bold herbs and savory flavors. I would describe it as "grown-up" cuisine, not suitable for picky eaters or those with a delicate palate. It's more of an adventure than just a meal! One suggestion would be to offer a few more traditional options alongside the smoked and inventive dishes. However, I would definitely suggest trying it out!
Everything about the Moorcock was exemplary. The service, from retreving my failed booking to the service throughout our meal was of the highest quality, efficient, attentive and friendly. The food was among the best I have ever eaten. We booked another table before we left. I urge you to eat here before they close in the New Year.

We were visiting family in Walsden, my son booked the table based on reviews. We were not disappointed, the staff, food decor perfect. All the dishes were innovative, tasty and we'll presented. Perfect.
