My wife and I were in Newport for three days to celebrate our 40th meeting-anniversary. My Yelp research led me to The Mooring for dinner. And I got massive husband points!! Thank you! The festive and inviting entrance let us know something good was in store for us--and we were correct! We were seated immediately, honoring our 8 p.m. reservation. I ordered a half dozen oysters-two different types. They were so fresh, tasty, and plump, that I ordered three more. My wife had little necks similarly fresh and tasty and (just ok) clam chowder. My main course was the whole roasted fish which was branzino that evening. My huge fish beurre blanc was roasted so perfectly that I felt like we were sitt...
Not a great experience. First, important to note that service was good. Our waitperson was very friendly and pleasant. We were seated in an outdoor area with plastic walls and no heaters on a 35 degree night. I ordered the filet and got fish. They then apologized and brought me a cold, overcooked filet with 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes that were cold although they were significantly better than the steak. Very disappointing. Not a great experience.
Very good restaurant, though a little expensive. Get seafood if you come here. It is fresh and delicious. The oysters were very good, the lobster was delicious (and I usually don't like lobster). The service was high-end, and we were taken care of throughout the meal. Sitting on the pier is awesome and definitely added to the ambiance of the dinner! One negative is the kelp kimchi, which was good but definitely not worth it.
When perfection talks, its hard to find words to describe about quality of sea food and also the waiter's professionalism...The pictures are talking and definitely this is the place in New Port, RI that I suggest to everyone...This place is one of the best in whole nation and deserves all 5 stars...We definitely enjoyed our view, the food and atmosphere...

This place was a gem to find. Great quality service. Everything we ordered was delicious. Lobster shrimp fritters: they're fried but not heavy/greasy, a wonderful start to the meal. Raw oysters great variety and very fresh. We also ordered the kale radicchio salad and seafood pasta. Everything we had was amazing. Would definitely eat here again.
We both just got lobster roll for lunch. So good and the roll it was on made it really good and the fried onions on top were a good added touch! I got salad instead of french fries and the house dressing was also awesome. Service was great. Ambiance was nice also.
An exceptionally fabulous restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island with the best lobster rolls I ever had! Even in a heavy summer rainstorm, I didn't mind after eating their lush food. Their cod sandwich also was better than any cod I had in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
AMAZING FOOD! Get reservations because this place is busy! Always a great time at The Mooring!!
