The Mouse Trap Ramsbottom

Bit deflated after looking forward to the visit for so long. After booking well in advance for lunchtime and reading reviews we were excited to go. Cheese cheese cheese what’s not to love. Then we saw Raclette on the menu and imagined the melted raclette slab and slicing melting cheese and crusty bread with a chilli jam pot. To start we thought olives x3 to share whilst we chatted waiting for the Raclette and crusty warm bread. After all were in Ramsbottom with lots of local shops to supply. We visited the Mouse Trap for the 2nd time, having really enjoyed our first visit earlier in 2022. We booked the table online for New Year's Eve, as we wanted to spend a quiet couple of hours before the festivities commenced. We were told to sit wherever we liked and the menus were brought over after about 10 minutes. We ordered 2 different platters which were tasty but both had items missing (houmous on the charcuterie board and pickles/cornichons on the Lancashire board). This was not a major problem for us. This is a place I had never heard of before I was taken. The name Mousetrap suggests cheese, we weren't far off it was like a fancy ploughman's lunch our choice the Lancashire platter) came with with plenty of different types of cheese and cooked meats with bread and crackers there was also Piccalilli, Branson pickled onions and Chutney not forgetting portions of pork pie and a few grapes. We went for a late lunch and parking is hard to find but such is Ramsbottom. The entrance has a slope which I did not find negotiating easy. Would I return for another visit well the food was good I don't know.

I made reservations at this restaurant twice, but they cancelled on me last minute, ruining two days off. The owner did not offer an apology or engage in any dialogue. I used to visit this place often and it was one of my favorites, but now I would not recommend wasting time or money here. I am willing to provide a timeline and emails if the owner wants to address this review. Réservez une table maintenant

4 empty tables, “can we sit down until the pre booked turns up” “no sorry, I can’t sit anyone at those tables”. Couple who clearly know the bar staff, sit, with acknowledgment of the bar staff at a table we pointed at, we asked them if they had booked, the answer “no”. You don’t deserve the trade, and I wish I hadn’t spent any money with you.

We visited The Mouse trip earlier in the year following a short steam train ride from Heywood. The option to choose your own cheese was brilliant. Huge portion for the cheese board, great selection of meats and snacks too. The wine was also delicious, thoroughly enjoyed!

The restaurant demanded a large deposit from us, which we now understand the reason for. They were clearly just interested in taking people's money and had no intention of reopening. It is disgraceful how they treated people.

I had the Fondue, a glass of wine, and enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the restaurant. Thank you Casie and the team. I will definitely be returning. Réservez une table maintenant

we had lovely food, the staff were very attentive, the band was brilliant we had a fab night, it was so lively and had a great atmosphere.

Lovely staff! Lovely food! The Reisling and Raclette were delicious! Had a great time! Will definitely be back!
