The staff and service were really great BUT unfortunately the food was not. The coated prawn starter was sad to say the least, the prawn substance was no more than 5 mm long. THE FISH CHIPS WAS BAD. YOU NO LONGER HAVE COD. Instead it was flat, all skin batter ONE STAFF CALLED IT HADDOCK, ANOTHER CALLER IT POLLOCK WHICH I BELIEVE BUT IN ANY CASE IT WAS DISGUSTING. I do not send food back to the kitchen for obvious unspeakable things that kitchen staff have been known to do to it. I do not know if other food on the menu have also been degraded, but I may never find out. A snippet for TRIPADVISOR I am sure. MR DEREK GUDE
Had a lovely meal with friends at The Oakwood tonight.The service was good as was the food and there is a decent choice on the menu. An added bonus for us came from a young chef called Mitchell. At the end of the evening our bus didn't turn up to take us back into Southend so this lovely young man let us share his taxi and refused to let us contribute to the fare.
Thank you to Sally and John and your amazing family for such a wonderful Christmas tea dance afternoon. The 3 course meal was delicious and the whole afternoon was so enjoyable. We are looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Merry Christmas to you all. Xxx
Fantastic place to go. Kerry our waitress made the whole evening brilliant, anything we needed she provided and nothing was too much. I was so pleased that I chose the Oakwood to show my brother, who lives in Japan, how wonderful this pub is.

My brother and I came and enjoyed a Christmassy meal. Maybe I was mistaken thinking turkey was listed on the website. The waitresses were friendly and very obliging. Lovely burger chips. Atmosphere in the dining area was pleasant
Food was great as usual. I had the katsu triple burger with waffle fries and didn’t touch the sides. Kerry was a great waitress and made us feel welcomed.
Had a lovely meal here last night. It’s your typical pub food, good price. Food was hot and fresh. A few drinks and a couple of games if pool.

Lovely pub, good atmosphere. Friendly warm and welcoming. First visit will return and only £4 a pint
