We recently dined at The Frying Dinner in the Old Bell and were greeted by a lovely host who seated us at our table. We ordered the lamb and turkey dishes. Unfortunately, my first choice, the beef, was no longer available. However, both the lamb and turkey dinners were outstanding and cooked to perfection! The Yorkshire puddings were massive. We overheard someone mentioning that they had run out of vegetables, which is likely why our vegetable portions were on the smaller side. I'd love to book a table here again, but next time I'll make a reservation earlier to ensure all food options are available.
Our appetizers and entrées were excellent, but I was disappointed with the dessert. I've been here before and recommended it to others, which is why I came back with friends. Previously, I had warm waffles with ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert, and it was fantastic. However, this time, I ordered the same dessert but was very disappointed. The waffle was just a store-bought one, cold, with a small scoop of ice cream on top, and it lacked any syrup or sauce. I would definitely recommend the steakhouse, but not the desserts.
I had a great meal yesterday and I've always appreciated the food here. However, there seems to be something missing. The staff were excellent, but I can't quite pinpoint what it is. Perhaps the music could be a bit louder? Not overwhelmingly so, but it could help create a better atmosphere. Right now, it feels a bit like a dining hall, where you feel the need to speak softly and hold back laughter. It's a pity, because the building is fantastic and everything else is really well done.
