I only nipped in the Pack Horse for a quick one, as it was bang near my hotel; but I stayed all evening because it drew me in. At first, I just sat in the back room watching football on a screen; but a good singer at the open mic night drew me out to the main room to listen, and I watched the rest of the singers while leaning on the bar. Standard was surprisingly good; and though at open mics the singers all know one another and form a bit of a clique, everyone was friendly, and I felt relaxed. The lady behind the bar was very pleasant despite struggling with a bad leg, and the landlord quite a character. All credit to them for making the effort to draw people into the pub: after all, this was a Monday. They also had a deal on called Cask Ale Monday : any cask ale for £2.75. A great idea and will help clear beer left over from the weekend. I think I drank Saltaire Blonde, Hobgoblin Gold, Old Peculier, and the like. The pub also does a quiz on Thursdays, a pie deal on Sundays, etc. The building itself has a lovely design, with a standout black-and-white tiled floor around the bar.
