I wouldn't see us regularly diner at the wig and whistle, but if we go for a meal, it is for the wig and whistle. as always the food was delicious, we had the sunday. what a great shame it was abandoned by the service. the assistent manager tried so hard to welcome and repeated the same grußwort for word, for all. unfortunately he had his standards slip as soon as we had our main course. We had a gorgeous Mothers Day roast. The food was excellent, can’t fault! The only thing I will say is the service was okay but a little strange. We had a girl who said someone would take a drinks order, no one came. The table next to us were seated after us and got served before us. We had to ask for menus and a drinks order. The food was prompt fantastic. One server commented on how stressful the day had been twice over we didn’t ask? One server told us she was new. And another asked if we had a nice meal, apart from the beer around the water glass (from when he bought our drinks over) which sounded kind of sarcastic or he was just saying what he was thinking. very recommended pub! visited as family and received excellent hospitality and good food. we tried the pig booze who was ingenious, that is cooked with love and attention. also the filling! local ales on the tap. we have booked directly for the day after we try out the rest of the menu. beautiful location, in front of location free parking. don't think twice, just go!

If you're really hungry, come here to eat! the staff here was so friendly and full of good local advice. this is usually not the kind of place I would choose, I really prefer right country pubs, but not much was opened in the backwaters of devon on a Monday evening, so really glad that we found the gay and whistle. Come back here.

my partner and I ate here last night while I was on vacation in the opposite. what a sound! wonderful cozy interior, friendly attentive staff and eating was fantastic. huge selection of options to fit carnivores, fish lovers, veggie and vegan! would definitely return. 10/10
