I waited over an hour for my order, and there were only two staff members working. I saw one of them taking orders while also handling money, and then going straight to help with the food. Meanwhile, the lady in the kitchen was cooking snacks alongside the fries. When my order finally arrived, I received three burgers and two fries all crammed into a tiny brown bag that was about to burst. My burger was soaked in an excessive amount of sauce, and the bread was already soggy, as if it had been sitting out for hours. The food at The Red Onion was excellent, with generous portions and prices that felt justified. The building itself is quaint and charming. The only downside was the staff’s attitude—they weren’t rude or offensive, but they seemed disappointed and surprised to see a customer, wearing frowns as if my visit was an inconvenience. Perhaps they were just tired that day; cooking is tough work. Or maybe they’re unhappy with their job or life in general. Either way, it made the atmosphere a bit uncomfortable, as if ordering food caused them some distress. It wasn’t busy at all—just me and one other customer. I grew up in El Sobrante and used to visit Red Onion often. It was amazing back then. However, when I went there yesterday, I was let down to find that it’s not the same Red Onion I remember. The burgers didn’t meet expectations, and as for the secret sauce, it might be best kept a secret. On a positive note, the fries and shakes were delicious.
If you're looking for a place where food is prepared without gloves or masks, accompanied by unfriendly service, and you're willing to pay $9 for a large milkshake, then this restaurant might suit you. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

The burgers, shakes, and soft serve treats are all made to order and absolutely delicious. You can't go wrong choosing this spot. Just skip the fries, as they aren't anything to write home about.
The pasta was flawlessly cooked, and the marinara sauce had the ideal level of tanginess. The wine selection was extensive, providing excellent pairings for every dish.
A cozy, no-frills burger spot with delicious food. The space is compact but never felt overcrowded. Looking forward to coming back soon.
