The Restaurant at Chalk Lane Hotel

I chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary but both my wife and I were left disappointed. The service was good although the waitress had a habit of referring to my wife as young lady which as she is about to celebrate her 60th was a bit annoying after the first time. The menu was adventurous and the starter was good but we both felt the main courses did not live up to expectation. Some of the ingredients looked interesting but for us did not work together. The portions were good but neither my wife nor I finished the plates due to a mix of quantity and quality. The wine at £36/bottle was also nothing special. It was a lovely place tucked away off a small lane. Unfortunately for us, it was a Wednesday and the four of us were the only diners that evening so the ambience was disappointing. However the food was wonderful and of course the attention from then staff was impeccable. We'll definitely go back, but hopefully on a busy night.

Enjoyable Sunday lunch, great food. Very quiet, only 3 tables with guests when we were there but only about 11 tables in total anyway. Sunday has a set menu which I felt was very reasonably priced. 3 courses was about £28 a head but the food was excellant have put pictures up and it is fine dining. Really enjoyed

Maitre de made the experience exceptional. Food was ok. For some reason the menu description didn't match the actual plate of food. Rump of lamb was chewy. Reconsider butcher!
