We went to The Jaggy Nettle by the riverside for a family meal. The atmosphere was nice and cozy, and we felt comfortable there. We followed the advice to pre-order our meals, but unfortunately, there were issues with availability. The staff didn't properly check off our order, causing two of us to go without a starter. This was the only negative aspect of the experience, as the service was lacking. When the food finally arrived, I didn't hesitate to dig in since I had been watching everyone else eat for quite some time. Considering this place is situated in a small village, with few resources and I’ve lived here for a while, I’m a relative stranger to the Riverside. However, I visited with a couple of friends for a quiet drink the other night and received a lovely warm welcome. It was quiet, but the service was excellent and the jukebox kept the atmosphere pleasant without being too rowdy. I know that depending on the night, you can hear live bands and karaoke. I’m planning on returning based on my experience the other night so I guess thats the highest compliment I can make. So don’t be shy. Go in and say hello.
I've been going to the riverside for over 20 years, under a number of different owners and it has always been a cracking wee pub. For now, (January 2023) the staff are friendly and well natured. The clientele seems decent and there is pretty much no bother caused by anyone. The restaurant is closed for the moment, but is a great place to get some food and I've heard it will be open again soon. Definitely recommended if you are in the area, best pub in Newmilns by far.
