First time in a couple of decades that I’ve been able to stop off and try this place that has looked interesting but not quite tested my curiosity enough. Today there a parking space at the side of the road, the doors were open and there people scattered around part of the visible garden and evidence of an enthusiast filming a trad folk or dance group near the top of the beer garden. Mid afternoon the first rooms I entered to the small but well stocked bar were empty but quickly a trail of customer with group orders. I bought a bottle of Crabbes steeped alcoholic steeped ginger beer £5.50. Got sight of the varied enticing eat in or takeaway pizza menu which on a Sunday is served till 7. Was...

We booked a table for 1pm and arrived at around 12:40 for a drink. We got told that the chef wasn't around and may turn up around 1 or later. Ordered the food around 1:15 to be told its a 15 minute wait for food. At 2:20 still no food and got told that the pizza oven wasn't heating up. We then decided to ask for a refund. Told that they were not sure how to process a refund. They said we should have realised when we ordered the food. Avoid at all costs unless you have booked a space in the churchyard opposite whilst you wait for your food.

Unfortunately we lost an ex colleague and his 'wake ' was at the Shoulder of Mutton. Great service, food and ambiance. What really impressed me was that when I asked the landlord for the number of a taxi company he instantly and very kindly offered to drive us the mile or so to our hotel. I have never experienced such warmth in a pub from someone I did not know. The pub has character, as does the landlord.

Would highly recommend. We were staying at Horwood House which we felt was lacking a little atmosphere so decided to risk venturing out to The Shoulder of Mutton and we're so glad we did. The landlord was ever so kind, polite and accommodating and the locals made us feel right at home.

We stopped here in July 2024 on a road trip looking for a pub lunch. Strangely the only food available was from a pizza van in the garden, which turned out to be quite delicious, although not quite what we were looking for. Nice pub, nice pub garden too.

Very relaxed, friendly and efficient. We went Saturday night for their wonderful outdoor stonebaked pizzas with the kids. There is a playground for them by the village hall next to the pub, and a really pretty church. Would definitely go again.

Travelled all the way here to enjoy a pint of Hook Norton beer 20 or more years since the last pint when I lived in the Cotswolds. This is a true village pub in the truest of senses no bells or whistles. Not even sure if they do food.
