At the recommendation of the Manager, we sat at the chefs counter, which was a unique experience to see the crew operating. The Manager and our waitress were incredibly engaged, making us feel comfortable and taken care of. We started with a couple Martinis while our bottle of Bordeaux opened up. The Steak Tartar was incredibly fresh and flavorful which we paired with some nice soft cheeses and steaming hot bread. The French onion soup had wonderful beef flavor. Our entrees were the Prime rib special and the bone in pork chop, both perfectly executed. We enjoyed the food a lot.The restaurant was packed and there were gaps in service. Our waitperson was charming and working hard but obviously had too many tables.We ordered wine, waited forever, and eventually asked another waiter to track our wine down.They cleared plates and cutlery between courses but failed to replace the cutlery when our entrees arrived. Our waiter was nowhere in sight so again we had to ask another waiter for forks so we could eat.Noise: loud. Tables are close together. Ideally diners should respect the space and keep conversations contained. Unfortunately it seemed like we were in our neighbors’ conversations more than our own.The uneven service and lack of intimacy...
I used to love this restaurant but would not recommend it any more. Last night management asked us to move tables mid-way through our meal to accommodate a larger party. The party never sat there, so the manager pushed one of the tables up against ours saying, “There! Now you have a bigger table!”. Lucky us? Moments later, he came back by to remove a candle from our table and give it to another one without a word. I saw him chatting with other patrons, seating customers, but he never apologized for the inconvenience or checked on us. Maybe it seems small, but it felt like we weren’t valued as customers.
Sat out on the porch and maybe that was the prob. Service poor, wine came with dinner, waiter spilled some and never came back to clean it up, food good, noisy. No dessert offering, had to ask for bill . we are long time customers and had a graduation dinner. We were so disappointed.

Very very good food and fabulous service! I especially liked the duck l'orange and my wife loved the pear salad. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I'll be coming here again when we visit San Diego next time.Food: 5/5
Had dinner with a friend. My second time there. We had the salmon and the duck, both were fantastic! The restaurant tables are pretty close together so the noise level can get a bit loud. Will definitely be back!
I enjoyed dinner with my sister, we had the spanish octopus, the duck, pear salad and escargot. It was all delicious, well-flavored, and we will definitely be back to try other delicious entrées.
We went for a special occasion and were delighted by the ambiance, food and service. The Smoking Goat will be our go-to restaurant for special occasions in the future!
