Hard a really bad first experience at the Tavern. We had heard a lot of good things about this place. We had reservations for a party of 6 on a Saturday night. When we got there at 7 pm for our scheduled reservation we were told it would be about 10-15 minute wait. We had no problem and completely understood. We were finally seated around 7:25. We were in a room with 2 other tables where parities were sat after us. We waited until 7:40 and the other 2 tables had already had drink orders and appetizers placed. I've had dinner here several times in the past. I'm from out of state, and this was the first time my wife could join me. I was excited for her to dine at the Tavern. As usual, the food and service were good. We usually eat in the back, outside. However, it's winter now, and it is very cold. We were seated downstairs in a room with one large table in the middle and several four-tops and two-tops. Sitting at the large table were eight people, or four couples, men at our end and women at the other. My wife and I were seated at a two-top. I'm not sure you could find another fine dining experience even if you tried... From the time you enter the front door , the cozy atmosphere combined with candles and a fireplace along with dim lighting, let's you know right away just how special The Tavern is... Our food was cooked to perfection, and the service was 5 star... My wife and I had a few mixed drinks after our meal and just took advantage of this enjoyable establishment... I would summarize this review by saying that no matter how much I could talk about our experience, some things you just need to experience for yourself... make your reservation in advance, you don't wanna miss this opportunity...
I’m an E&H student and have eaten here a few times my years at emory. Tavern is easily the BEST dinner restaurant in Abingdon and a MUST EAT for anyone visiting. The brie and french onion soup are (in my opinion) the best things on the menu and a mandatory “must order” whenever dining here! An awesome “splurge” meal for me, and a place my foodie family loved when they came up to visit me a while back! Price per person: $50–100
