The hotel is beautiful, and the Oak Dining Room is lovely, though it's somewhat marred by a garish blue rug that is fixed to the wall and clashes with the rest of the decor. Exiting the parking lot can be quite a challenge in the dark unless you happen to find the intercom, which is quite far from the car park barrier. The food service was excellent, but the Bellini was disappointing, served only two-thirds full in a champagne glass. On a positive note, the maître d' was impressive—clearly well-trained and articulate.
This visit to Great Fosters was for a 90th birthday. They loved the ambience and gardens, dining experience very pleasant too. Surprisingly unbusy. Service excellent but had to ask for water with no ice. Lunch menus good value (from £19 £24) with interesting choices, and well presented, but 'easy ' enough for elderly people. 2 small details not perfect green veg very over salted one 'slow cooked egg ' on onion tart had too much runny white for me. Hence not top score but otherwise lovely.
The food was outstanding, and the ambiance is one of my favorites—it's so warm and relaxing. However, this time we were quite disappointed with the service, which seemed to deteriorate. There was a lack of communication among the waitstaff. While everyone was very friendly, especially the manager, we had to wait a long time for our drinks, which didn't arrive together. Unfortunately, this issue persisted throughout the entire meal.
The Oak Room at Great Fosters Egham Lovely building, striking interior. Lovely dining hall with high vaulted ceilings and wooden supporting beams. Food is not bad, but not good value. £42 for 2 courses and £52 for three. The portions are small, and are only worth half that price. Cocktails are also not worth the price.
