Not a nice experience! We should have known better and left immediately! We thought we would try out this bar/restaurant as we had heard it was good! Whilst deciding whether to have a drink or eat as well an old woman who was sat across...the room having her dinner started barking at us “are you eating, are you eating?” Bit odd, we thought, but decided that we would eat and to be fair we had an ok meal. However the trouble really got started after we had finished. There was a singer in the bar and people were singing along and playing maracas etc. I made the fatal error of singing along for a few minutes as well. Visited the Underground 4 out of the 6 days we were in St Anton and were always welcomed by the lady owner who has been running this business for the 17 years ( and more) that I have visited . It has a nice sun terrace at the back, has a happy hour (3-5pm I believe), and has handy hooks where you can hang your ski gear on whilst having a relaxing drink with friends. We booked a table on the chalet girls 'night off' - always a thursday, and it was packed! They always have a singer(s) - 5 years ago I visited and they had a sax player, double base, guitar player, and a flute player! Visited what should be a great apres ski bar with 9 skiing mates. Unfortunately a super day's skiing was tainted by the obnoxious and rude behaviour of the owner; a "lady" (the wicked witch of st anton) with the worst customer service I have experienced in many years of skiing. Being asked to move chairs to accommodate other guests is not a problem providing the request is made in a civil manner and in a considerate tone of voice. Unfortunately this was not the case and therefore the owners request was refused with a reasonable justification given - her response was to reject this and spit more fire and rudeness, subsequently telling us to leave which we did. I think the place has been for at least 30 years, and even if our last visit was 10 years back, we immediately recognized the place. Same musicians, same menu and the patron lady sit on her table in the back, play solitary and...count the turnover of the day. Most people come to the ski equipment and after 9 a.m. the spirits are lifted. So if you don't mind a classic after-ski ambience, live music and traditional pub style food, underground is the place to go. We came here with a small group of friends to eat what meat fond was and what was good. They had some live music that was actually worse than the average music in an elevator, but the worst was that the service and...the hospitality was one of the worst I experienced at the age. Especially the Australian owner was unfriendly and behaved like a real witch. I wouldn't recommend this place. Waste your money!
Been to the underground a few times now. Last year I had one of my best ski nights out ever in fact one the best ever nights out.Always buzzy a good place to meet people and have fun food is great and reasonable. Went there last week again and had a blast. The young blonde waitress was brilliant and kitchen staff outstanding. The Austrians singing the Johnny Depp song made the evening.
While many can be insulted by fiery Joan, the underground is part of the substance of St. Anton. So many good times here! Very sad to see it made near in luxury apartments). One of the best parts of St Anton. Thank you, Joan, these wonderful musicians who had amazing times here.
been calling here regularly for about 10 years. Great for apres-ski, good music, great tapas, and good service. A well-run house, tends to get busy, so man-spreading is not a good idea.Owner most considerate when one of the group had an injury. No pretentiousness here; just go!!
