It was a volatile rating in the sense that there were definitely moments I wanted to give it a one star but I finally landed at 3 because of the breakfast server. Check in process for our one night stay was smooth but tasteless. We got put into the main guest house on the second floor. The staff at the reception did not seem very welcoming. The main guesthouse has its old charm but we were absolutely freaked out by the two mannequins sitting outside. We were told later on by the staff that they were supposed to be Prince Charles and Camilla (why them!? . At night, this guest house feels quite scary. We started out with drinks in the pub before moving over to the dining area for our dinner reservation. We were continued to be served by the same pub staff waiter in the dining room. We were the only table being served by this server. He obviously had the pub and us to take care of and only visited our table to take an order, bring food and the bill. We were not offered a wine list, rolls before dinner which we heard were great or asked us how everything was. We had to ask for water and ketchup, the later we never got. We had dinner with friends unfortunately service wasn't up to all the reviews. Seemed to be busy so staff were doing their best to keep up but definitely short staff to manage all the bookings. We ate in the garden club so was expecting this to be at a different level that eating at the pub, paper napkins, no plates for rolls and quite a delay to get drinks/place order. We had fish n chips which was tasty. Waitress was a doll and you could see she cared and was trying her best. Tips are added on automatically which is fine if they provide good service . more effort needs to be placed by mgmt to have sufficient staff to manage the bookings.
We had a terrible experience at the bar at the Waring House Restaurant. The bartender refused to serve my friend a shot of whiskey at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. My friend is a 75 years old and healthy. My friend had two shots of whiskey and asked for a third shot of whiskey but the bartender refused to serve it to him. My friend was not drunk. We can back for dinner at 7 PM. We tried to order a glass of wine but the manager refused to serve us any alcohol. We could only order food. We immediately left and went to another restaurant. Was at the cooking school a few days ago. Great experience overall! Chef David has a lot of experience to share and stories to tell. He travelled all over the world and worked at first-class restaurants. The session started with the trip to the herb and vegetable garden and we were able to pick the items we were using during the class. Chef David not only shows how to do things, he also observes you and provides feedback when you are prepping or cooking. Overall 5 out of 5, would gladly repeat.
Aside from the unsatisfactory meal, we were also disappointed by the staff's attitude. When we provided honest feedback about our experience, the restaurant manager was confrontational and condescending. This unprofessional behavior was unexpected in a customer service industry. We would not recommend Amelia's Garden to anyone visiting Prince Edward County. However, we must note that the pianist playing at the restaurant was excellent and the highlight of our evening.
My family gathered to celebrate a 50th anniversary at this restaurant. The establishment, welcoming staff, accommodations, meals, breakfast, and servers all exceeded our expectations, despite the shortage of staff. We are grateful for making our visit a pleasant experience. Thank you.
