Over time pre and post pandemic, this restaurant has become a hit and miss. However, it has been good until this past week where I suffered SEVERE case of food poisoning. I ordered the Crab Cakes with Mac and Cheese, and Kale. I knew that the Crab Cakes were questionable, along with everything being cooked with old grease.As the food is a hit and miss, that can apply to the staff as well. When the young adults are working, they project their negative disposition. From the young man who appeared to be upset he had to work on Sunday, to the rude young lady who would not allow me to speak to a manager when I requested one (to give feedback about the crab cakes). Absolute Zero Rating!!!Please make it make sense to me and the rest of this community how after only 45mins after opening a soul food place you don 't have all items on your menu? #2 why are you showing seats/seating pictures when you know it 's all take out? #3 then after placing my order with only the items you have not what I want you cashier informs me it will take 45mins before I get my to go order ? let me inform you that I was done eating at Vonda 's Kitchen in 45min???#SaddestServiceInNewark????
I ate at the Weekend Spot restaurant many times before and it was really good and authentic soul food with a Latin flare. I saw these nasty reviews by Black patrons at a Black Female owned restaurant and wasn't happy how our community does this to our establishments. I went back and ordered 3 meals and just like usual, there was a wait but the food was great as usual. I never mind waiting for food made to order.
Unquestionable Intergrity!!It was beyond busy on Father's Day and they was a super wait but my food was hot, made to order, and delectable. I don't have pictures because it's all gone. Definitely will recommend to eat here and yall did an amazing job!Only reason it's 5 star because that's the highest I can rate.

Yes, the service can be slow depending on what time of day you go but man, the freshness of the food is there. You can tell so nope, I don't mind waiting. Besides the food, it is the juices in the veggies, the flavorful gravies, and that chocolate crunch cake. POW!!!
I love this place the food is delicious. I order from here often, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. I would suggest ordering early, especially if you're planning on getting the oxtails; they sell out quickly. And don't forget desertion won't be disappointed.
great eating everywhere! the fried chicken and split wings are my go-to's always fresh, crisp and well seasoned. also they can't go wrong with any side.
