My family and I, a group of six in total, visited The Wheatsheaf on a Sunday for lunch. My partner had called ahead to ensure there was enough space for his family to come for a meal and was told there was plenty of room. However, when we arrived, we were met with a surprised look and told that they were only expecting two people. We were asked to wait while another table finished their coffee and were finally invited in after a few minutes. Despite expecting a busy restaurant, there were hardly any customers present and we noticed some tables that could have accommodated more guests if necessary. We waited a long time to order and even longer for our starters, only to have all but one arrive at our table. The waitress assured us the missing starter would be out shortly but kept attending to other customers without addressing our issue. Eventually, the last plate arrived with an apology from the waitress, who explained that the chef had dropped the first batch on the floor. It would have been appreciated if she had communicated this earlier instead of leaving us waiting. The main course also took a long time to arrive, with my roast missing some components and the beef being tough. We declined dessert and asked for the bill, which took a while to arrive and we had to ask for it again. Overall, our experience was disappointing as the staff seemed overwhelmed despite the lack of customers, and there appeared to be a lack of communication among them. Although The Wheatsheaf is our local pub, we will not be returning after this poor dining experience.
