I used to love the Wheatsheaf but I now think it 's overpriced and a little chaotic sometimes. So, I doubt we 'll go back for another meal anytime soon, but it 's still a good cosy pub when the fires are going, and it has a friendly atmosphere. I went with friends on a weekend evening and ordered the 'Derbyshire ' pie, which was beef and ale. It was a very nice pie but not that large compared to the pies that the kitchen used to produce when the previous landlord and landlady were there. There was a little veg a few bits of carrot and peas, and a too large portion of mashed potato which I suspect was to make the meal look bigger! The pie, veg and mash were not in the right proportions to eac...

The worst vegetarian lasagna we have ever eaten. A few layers of too ‘al dente’ ie ‘chewy’ lasagna set between tomato soupy sauce with a few bits of red pepper. Served with polystyrene garlic bread and iceberg lettuce with the most awful bottle salad dressing and two slices of unripe tomato and red onion. In its defence it was edible and we ate it because we were hungry but at £13.95 it was was not cheap! We won’t be back and we only live down the road, so that’s a shame. The real ale was off too

Very disappointed with my visit to the Wheatsheaf. Went for lunch, but no lunch menu available. After enquiring if sandwiches were available, the barman read the menu from the till behind the bar. All very odd!!! We opted for BLT from the very limited choice that we were offered. We were the only people in the pub I now understand why that was) , didn’t have to wait very long for the food. We were charged £7, literally for a BLT roll no chips, no salad, no napkins

Fish Chip Friday was lunchtime menu between 12 noon and 2.30pm. Wow! The fish chips were served with mushy peas, curry sauce and tarter sauce. The batter was to die for and the fish was fluffy, boneless and lovely. Beautifully presented and we ate the lot! We will be back next week for fish chip Friday lunch. Thank you Lucy.
