"Have visited twice now. Love the ambience and the way they have integrated old with the new. All the nooks and crannies are still there so it’s definitely been renovated with a lot of thought. Many staff are young, new and inexperienced and could do with some more training to set consistent standards. Seemed to be unclear what they should be doing! Service was slow (both times) and this time my meal came way after everyone else’s had arrived which was disappointing and no apology. Food is ok but more healthy veg , not just broccoli as a side option would make it seem more wholesome. I will go back and give it another chance as it’s our local."

We visited on Christmas Eve, so maybe they just couldn’t get enough staff, but it was incredibly disappointing. We sat down at 6.30. We had a single starter, baked Camembert to share. This was served after about an hour, though we had to send it back because it was barely warm. We’d asked for it to be well baked so my pregnant daughter could enjoy some of it. It came back having obviously been microwaved, and as liquid as soup! We finally got our mains at 8.30. One dish was completely wrong and the others were unimpressive. The mash with the pie was cold, as were the chips with the fillet steak. The burger was lukewarm at best and incredibly salty, although at least the chips were hot. The courgette paella that my daughter wanted eventually arrived after the rest of us had finished eating, and was inedible with gritty undercooked rice. We spent 2 1/2 hours in the pub and in the end, all she had was a bit of melted cheese and a few chips from my meal. It was clear that pretty much every other table was having similar issues, and the pub was by no means full. The staff were trying their best, and to be fair, we didn’t pay for half of what we’d eaten and drunk, but I have no intention of returning. The old White Bear of a few years ago was our go to place and they did good simple pub grub extremely well, but I’m very sorry to report that this pub, which has clearly had a lot of money spent on it to refurbish it, is nowhere near as good as it was.

What a fantastic meal wonderful service our waitress Chloe really went the extra mile was super helpful efficient. The refurb is beautifully done the warm welcome was really appreciated. However the best part was, most importantly, the food. My daughter is a coeliac which usually means limited choices but not here! Lots of great options! We started with the cauliflower wings just perfectly cooked delicious. I followed with the fillet steak which is probably one of the best I’ve had cooked to perfection with a great peppercorn sauce. Chips were fluffy crispy tasted home made a generous portion. My daughter had the monkfish which was beautiful too. We were too full for puddings but enjoyed the house carafe of white wine if I wasn’t driving we would have ordered more! . Whilst the meal wasn’t the usual price you would expect in a ‘pub setting’ it was totally great value fabulous quality of food so pleased the White bear is back better than ever . I will be returning bringing friends family. Well done to a great team a fabulous chef/ kitchen crew. Keep up the fantastic work highly recommend a visit.

Ordered soup and a sandwich. It's not lobster thermidore and tournados Rossini. Soup was tasteless, had a weird texture and had been smothered with chive oil, presumably to make it taste like something. It came with a mini loaf of bread that had been microwaved. The fish goujons sandwich was a small fillet of haddock, which was actually very tasty but not goujons. The bread was whute only because they'd run out of granary and it was at least 2 days old. The sandwich also contained lettuce (fine) and tomatoes that had been butchered into thick and uneven slices including the stalk end. It was lightly covered with mayonnaise. The waitress asked if I wanted sauce, told me it already had tartare on it, and I haven’t seen her again (that was 75 minutes ago). The chips that came with the sandwich were cremated to the point of tooth breaking. About 40 minutes ago, they presented me with a bill for £22.50. I'm waiting for them to try to collect. Take my advice and eat somewhere else.

Have had many excellent lunches at the White Bear and it’s a great summer location. Took my family here as it’s just been renovated and it looks great. Staff are really good and attentive. You come here for the roasts and because it was Xmas Eve thought I would have the Wagu burger. Everything other than the patty was great but the main part of it let it down. It was overcooked and tasteless, it was prepackaged and when you are paying £20 inc adding bacon and cheese I expected something much better. My family went for the roasts and thoroughly loved them. The truffle and cheese fries have lots of both. Overall it’s a very positive experience but just don’t stray from the roasts.
