Flawless, unique, romantic and unforgettable fine dining experience. Ambience and atmosphere set perfectly with the lantern lit walkway leading down into the secret garden. You could literally feel the history of where you were, which is something we love about the City as a whole. Staff were perfectly attentive and incredibly welcoming throughout. We were never made to feel rushed between courses at any point quite the opposite. The staff asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. It was my 36th birthday and the staff kindly arranged for a special birthday plate with a candle during pudding, which took me by surprise. Yes, they truly gave me a magical experience! The location is incredibly beautiful and unique. The staff is extremely professional and knowledgeable about fine dining. From taking our orders to arranging a taxi for us at the end, we felt well taken care of. The food is excellent, I highly recommend the cauliflower starter, steak tartare, and the Rhubarb crumb dessert - absolutely divine. My partner also enjoyed the rabbit trumpet dish. For wine enthusiasts, their extensive list offers over 100 pages to choose from. While it may not be a cheap meal, we believe it was worth every penny. Relax in the candlelit ambiance and savor a truly special dining experience.
This beautiful restaurant has everything - great food, ambiance, and service. Thank you for doing what you do so well. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh. The lamb dish was excellent. The only issue was a not-so-friendly reception from one of the hosts when we briefly stopped by the restaurant a few evenings before dining there. Luckily, we decided to give it a chance and were pleasantly surprised. This serves as a reminder to all those in the restaurant industry/public sector to be kind to everyone who walks through their doors, as even the best restaurants can have a bad experience.
I stayed at this restaurant for a relaxing week and it was worth it! The suite was luxurious and beautiful, the service was attentive, the location was incredible, and the facilities were fantastic. I was torn between wanting to explore the nearby sights and just staying in the room the whole time. We also had a lovely dinner in the secret garden and enjoyed the breakfast basket in our room. eating was very nice and the room is beautiful. on the service side, although it was slow to start and once the food began to serve, it was very fast. the waitress also had the need to explain that meat tartars are raw meat and which knife I should use for my main course! this is not a cheap restaurant that people pay these prices for an experience. give them the chance to enjoy it.
