We ate in today (family of 4). I booked a table in advance as I thought it might be busy with the government offer on at the minute! When we got there for our 1pm booking we were left waiting for 15 minutes whilst the two waitresses cleaned tables. No idea why, with customers waiting they wouldn’t have just cleared two tables quickly and got us (and two other groups) seated. We were given menus, another 10/15 mins passed and no one had taken an order so we thought maybe we order at the counter, but no. Pots of tea were served with no cups (we had to ask for them) and then had to ask again for sugar. There were four of us eating yet they only brought two sets of cutlery, we asked for 2 other...
this place has had a name change and we visited on a trip up north.... I am very concerned that they are not correctly following Covid Guidelines..... we had booked a table arrived on time... met be a young girl told her we had booked a table, I was asked to leave contact details... BUT it was just a very small flip notebook, this worried me as I had expected something more organised.... we were shown to a table with no reserved sign whilst just across was a reserved table (it never got used) my seat was no further away from the table behind me than 'in normal times ' ..... the girl didnt ask us if we wanted and B&B or sauces.... food was fine but then on the way out I saw a sign on the wall...
As our usual fish shop was closed decided to spread wings and try somewhere new. Went to the take out and understand why it is one person only these days I do not have a problem with that. After waiting a significant period of time and only one person actually in the shop I just thought ok won’t be long. Pleasant young girl took my order and money. Was chuckling at the conversation staff were having but it went on and on and not a lot of frying getting done. After what seemed like ages I was asked if I would stand In the corner???? she wanted to serve a customer (what happened to one customer? who was stood outside. My wife, daughter, and I were disappointed with the mediocre quality of the food at this restaurant. Unfortunately, in this day and age, fish and chips are quite expensive for a family meal, so we were quite disappointed. The worst part was the chips - they had sharp, jagged edges that made it painful to eat. This was not the first time we had a bad experience, as previous visits were fine. The fish was decent but nothing special, and the curry sauce was unpleasant and inedible. Overall, for the price we paid, the meal was below average.

Myself and my Partner have just treated ourselves to Fish Chips with Curry sauce ,but when we tucked in we both food a BONE in our Fish ....Massively put off so therefore could not finish what was supposed to be a Delicious Takeaway .Disappointing !! I have to say I have eaten many time at Battyes Restraunt and I have always been Happy with my meal ....so not sure whats happened today ??
We,on the spur of the moment,the first time for a few weeks,fancied fish and chips and decided to go to Battye’s on Leeds Road ‘Glasshoughton,Castleford.Obviously they were take away,served in a box.The fish was a generous portion,cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious.The chips were also aplenty to complement the fish. Waited over 35 mins no food .went to ask a young girl politely where our food is. The reply was ow im sorry we thought you had finished .finished I said .we haven't had anything yet. Besides that the food is lovely..
We always order fish and chips from this restaurant every Saturday. The batter is absolutely amazing and cooked perfectly. We have tried other places, but this is definitely the best in CAS.

The new staff at this restaurant pales in comparison to the previous staff. My orders are frequently incorrect and I end up paying for items that I never receive.
Good fish and chips. Served hot and crispy batter. Good service. Busy lunchtime but apologies were made by staff and wait time was not long.
