I moved to East County before the Pandemic, so I haven't been here for years. My grandmother was German so I can make most of the dishes they serve here. For my wedding anniversary, I wanted German food and this restaurant has the best in the county. I was pleasantly surprised that the prices didn't skyrocket like most restaurants have done. Some mild increase, but nothing compared to other restaurants. My husband picked out a piece of prime ribeye steak from the butcher and they cooked it to perfection with their house spices. Stopped here for early dinner on Sunday, heading to OC from SD. You need to walk thru the grocery area (more on that later) to the counter to order. There are foldout cardboard menus there with all the things you can order, you place the order and pay and take a number to your table and they bring you the food. I had the lamb chops. $11.98 (NOT a typo) for 3 loin chops. PLUS two sides (I had baked potato and fries). PLUS salad or soup choice. PLUS a large dinner roll. Incredible. Top Top is just the best. It has everything. It is a corner market, a butcher shop, a deli, and a great place to have breakfast or lunch. Everything is great so get what you like and you will be happy. From simple egg breakfast to steak and some of the best sausages, they have it all. It reminds me of an old German restaurant, but it is not. Don't get me wrong, they have the best selection of sausage, that you can have there, take away, or get it at the deli and cook at home. I came here for breakfast and it was great I highly recommend their coffee, I had it hot and black. The coffee was excellent. I also got the big John breakfast which I think is 3 eggs, a choice of meat, and potatoes. All the food was prepared well and presented wonderfully. I thought it was cool how there was a store that sold products connected to the diner and I purchased some of the coffee grounds that they had served at the diner. The service was great, the waitresses were kind and polite. I highly recommend you go to this place it didn't disappoint.
I have loved this restaurant since I first went about ten years ago. They have great German food at great prices and quantity. Everyone seems to take home leftovers. My wife and I both had the sausage dinner. We had a choice of 4 different sausages that came with sauerkraut, red cabbage, mashed potatoes with gravy, a roll, and a nice salad all for $10! And a mug of beer for $4! This restaurant is one that you will remember and talk about and refer people to and will go back as often as you can. And they have a full store of food also.
Located close to the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, Tip Top Meats is a German restaurant and butcher shop. The restaurant area is a counter order, not a served eatery. There is a relatively large seating area. The portions are ridiculously large and not aesthetically impressive but very good for the type of food. The butchery/deli has an array of frozen meats from your typical beef and chicken to whole ducks and Elk, as well as a variety of organ meats. They also sell sausages, sauces, mustards, alcohol, chocolates and other foods.
Tip Top Meats. First time eating food from here. The burger and Reuben were excellent. Such a huge burger patty, and the corned beef was as lean as it could be. Burger, fries and Coke, $10.98, and Reuben with potato salad,$9.98. Their prices are unbelievable!! They also have a store and meat case. And so many different sausages. Great German deli and restaurant. Restaurant serves a good range of traditional German dishes ... monster portions of incredibly tasty fare. Wow. Meals come with I recall a couple of sides plus a choice of soup or salad. You will likely be looking forward to eating leftovers tomorrow. Will be coming back soon ... probably for the rouladen.
