Have used the cafe here for many years,it was always a great stop off on any journey North, with a great food offering at good prices. Have recently been twice first time just thought it was unlucky that the sandwiches were not very good. However today I was served a very cold sausage sandwich was meant to be hot and a not well done bacon and mushroom was fatty and warm. At just under £7 for the pair. When I took it back to the counter I just got ashoulder shrug from the staff!! Where have the buffalo burgers gone and the lovely raspberry slices. I know the previous owner retired but I won't be going back. Avoid at all cost. I would also question the food hygiene if they are serving cold foo...
The management changed here some time before the pandemic and, in many ways, the place is still not quite as good as it used to be under the old ownership. Having said that, the food is fine even if the choice is a little reduced from previously. The opening hours are longer as well. But, there are nothing like the number of table/benches that there use to be and the number of rubbish bins also still seems to be reduced side. All-in-all, we still stop here when passing (even if our journey is west to east and we need to go to the roundabout to access the lay-bay) as we feel that it is preferable to the Scotch Corner Services
Just bought two expensive breakfast sandwiches and wish we hadn't bothered. Everything was black as it would appear no-one ever cleans the griddle. The servery area was disgustingly filthy and needed a good clean. To add insult there were three staff all stood with their arms folded chatting. The bin area was disgusting and we daredn't even try the toilets. What has happened to this place, it used to be so good. I only hope for their sake they don't get a visit from the environmental health.
I stopped by on my way to Carlisle to try a sausage egg sandwich. I regretted it. I deliberately skipped the tea, as I had tried it on a previous visit and ended up throwing it away. The sausage egg sandwich was extremely overcooked and rubbery. I ended up throwing most of it away as well. I promised myself never to come back. The food was terrible (if you can even call it that) and very overpriced. I would recommend avoiding this place.

Absolutely terrible. We ordered 1 cup of coffee, the worst I've ever had, we ordered 2 x sausage egg tomato Black pudding sandwiches, the sausages were black like the rubber eggs, I don't think the oil had been changed from the day before. This place used to be a MUST to stop, since changed hands terrible. KEEP DRIVING
You only have one life. Do not waste it. Give this place a miss all will be right with the world. Disgusting toilet uncooked bacon. Told the girl behind the counter, her reply was, ohh. I used to call here regularly on my daily run to Lockerbie. Must of changed Owners or staff. It is better to go without than visit.
The sausage sandwich was extremely repulsive. I have never encountered anything so terrible in my entire life. I ended up tossing it into the overflowing garbage bins across from the cafe. Even the scavenging crows and rooks perched on the bins ignored it.
Just had two nice hot sarnies drinks. Staff polite and including a sense of humour too. Toilets fine. Never had a problem here in over 30 years.

Congratulations, you hold the title for serving me the worst sausage sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. It was completely inedible.
The toilets are absolutely filthy not fit to use. These facilities need inspecting We stopped her on the way to the Lakes never again.
