I have been to Trattoria Belmonte a couple of times in the past two years. The first two visits were very pleasant, good food and good service. Not the best Italian in town, but certainly good value for money. The second-to-last visit was already very unpleasant, because the service was non-existent. We decided to give it another try and came back last Sunday - but this was certainly my last visit. Service was very slow, it took them 10-15 minutes to supply us with water, food came quickly and was good. I ate there with my friend on a warm evening of July. We came quite late (around 2&:30 or 22:00) with no booking, but we still got a table on the terrace (which was pretty full still). The street is quiet and the tables large enough, which made eating outside a very pleasant experience.Staff was friendly and tried to help us with the translations (menu was both in German and Italian, we spoke none of these languages). We settled for a shared antipasti, and meat, with 2 glasses of Nero d'Avola. The antipasti was OK, nothing special to mention; but the meat was very good. I had lamb seasoned with thyme, which tasted amazing, while my friend had beef with parmesan, which was very soft and tasty...
I visited this restaurant twice. The first time I was not particularly impressed, but the second I had one of the best pasta I've had in a long time in an Italian restaurant in Berlin, that is their tagliatelle with veil and white wine sauce. I would recommend a visit even just because of that one dish! Absolutely amazing. The portion was very generous, the price (about € 14) higher than our local favourite places in Mitte, but higher quality too, I must say. My friends seemed all pleased with their food too, my husband had a tagliata and thought it was a little boring (maybe a bit plain, served with rucola, potatoes and carrots), but the meat was really good. We love to visit Belmonte, by now it feels like we're coming home. Owners Manu and Mirko are great hosts, the food is very good. Choose fresh fish, go for the truffle pasta or another all-time favourite; the ravioli with sage sauce (Salbei). I also really like their Vitello Tonnato. Belmonte is not the cheapest place in the neighbourhood (actually, it's probably one of the most expensive), but you know that you'll be enjoying a lovely evening, eating a wonderful dinner (they don't do lunch). This is our favorite italian restaurant in Berlin and we know we are not the only "habitués" because we often meet the same dinner guests. The staff is absolutely adorable (Signora Manuela, Angello, Roberto, Alesio), the food is delicious (the dishes with "Tartuffo" are a total delight) and we have never been disappointed (the Menu changes every week, the ingredients are always fresh and in harmony with the seasons). If you are looking for excellent italian food in a cosy and nice atmosphere, do not hesitate!
We are here for the second time this year last night with friends who live close by. We were welcomed like friends by the waiter and sat down to our table. From start to finish the service was faultless. The food was outstanding and excellent value. We were also treated to a free vodka which capped off an amazing evening. We will return at Christmas I am sure!
