On the way back from Davos, we were always frustrated by the choice of food along the highway. After a week of greasy French fries and schnitzels in the ski lodge on the slope, our stomach needed something other than Swiss food. - Location -I found Pizzeria Mamma Rosa on Google Map and decided to try after reading good reviews. The restaurant is located just 5-minutes detour from the entrance to the highway.- Exterior -The exterior of the restaurant was not appealing. It's in the middle of industrial area and next to a night club. The good thing is, there is a plenty of free parking spot in front of the restaurant.- Interior -Once inside, there is a dark corridor with toilet doors. No sing of the restaurant. It took us quite a while to figure out that one door leads to the dining room. When you open the door, you are greeted by a friendly Nonna in a crisp white shirt and perl necklace, who is perhaps the owner. There is a large pizza oven facing the dining. The interior is minimum but clean and chic. The interior decoration is unimaginable from the look outside. All the tables has crisp white table cloths and candle light. The Nonna told us later that she likes to iron.- Food -The menu is small but clear. We chose pizza and home-made maccheroni with tomato sauce. The food came right away, and as I expected, delicious! After the first bite of pizza with salami, my daughter said it is so delicious we all should try her pizza. Slightly crunchy outside, soft and chewy inside. Pizza with panko (bread crumbs) is an original dish at this restaurant and tastes impeccable. If you are with a big group, try the large tasting pizza with various topping served on a wooden tray as big as the table. Maccheroni was perfectly al-dente, and cut in different sizes. Accompanying tomato sauce was simple but equally tasty. We used to go to Der Pate Pizzeria in Davos Dorf but were never treated as warmheartedly and professional like at Mamma Rosa. The hectic service, burnt pizza, pricy food.... We decided to wait for the real Italian restaurant experience at Mamma Rosa before and after the trip to Davos.
