If you are staying in the Kings Cross/Darlinghurst areas this cafe is very convenient for a hearty breakfast or lunch. It’s actually just a few hundred metres from Kings Cross station not Edgecliff as incorrectly listed on Trip Advisor. There are always plenty of tables...inside or you can sit outside. Frequented by lots of locals. Free wifi, but cash only. UPDATE JUNE 2022 Stopped by early eve 6pm as was after a “quick” meal before an early show. 4 Staff on, maybe 10 guests, mostly already eating/drinking, so not at all busy. Decided on meatballs mash rather than a pasta, thinking that this would be reasonably easy quick to prepare. Within 10min I sensed that things were not going smoothly....
First arrived to be told there is a 40 minute wait just on coffee. Never have I ever had to wait so long for coffee. Second, the waitress taking orders had the Most horrendous attitude. Ordered a hash Brown which didn’t come out with my...meal. Lovely girl told me it wasn’t on the docket, and didn’t even apologise when I said I ordered one and she forgot to put it down. No butter on the dry toast and I’m not even going to get started on the disgrace that was my partners ‘eggs Benedict’ It’s only 12:30pm on New Year’s Day, and I’ve already had my time wasted in 2019
First time visit? Find a table, order at register after reading menu on wall above kitchen area and sit back to enjoy the sense of local community. Tables of regulars reading the paper, chatting over coffee or solo dining there’s a spot for all....Hard working staff look after you. Menu to suit all ages, appetites and is pocket friendly. Look out to the busy street and imagine it closed off for the original screening of Tropfest. Located short walk to Griffin Theatre for pre/post show dining.
Since my last review good old Tropicana has jumped leaps and bounds. Obviously the new owners are getting out right, credit cards and efpos are now available which is a good sign, scrambled eggs under $10 for a decent portion in fact there are quite...a few options for a $10 budget. Only been eating breakfast so can't say how the rest of the food is but it's good to see it's moving forward.

Le menu du petit-déjeuner est bon, a essayé le petit-déjeuner avec des saucisses et je l'aime tellement. Le café est agréable, un café trop lisse et un grand fort. Globalement, c'est bien !!!
Tropicana is a Sydney Institution. Good value food and wine, great coffee and a favourite with locals and visitors. Have eaten there several times and never been disappointed.
Great Cafe with super friendly staff! Options of indoor/outdoor seating. Good selection of hot/cold beverages. Huge serving of milkshake to cool down on a hot summer day!
Love to come here for Breakfast, Coffee, Dinner. Food always come out quick. Many menu are my favourites. Staff always friendly. Love to see you guy open after lock down.

great lunch: coffee a prawn risotto from the specials board both excellent. quiet quiet atmosphere made this unforgettable a new favorite piece while visiting sydney.
Excellent fish chips with salad and a glass of house-white (which is always really good). The staff couldn’t be nicer.
