We visited this restaurant 3 weeks ago and loved the experience so much we returned for a repeat visit. While food is consistently good, the service for the second visit was poor.It does have a great view over the Yarra River and back onto Melbourne's CBD and the italian food is usually excellent. Overlooking the Yarra, and the fashion-hungry Melbourne populace, this Southgate eatery turned my teenager's birthday occasion into a night of fabulous fine dining. Risottos are the delicacy of the house. She was in heaven with her tomato-y soft-shell crab concoction. I ventured into scallops, my favourite, laced with truffles, a new sensation for me. While delightful, I found the pieces of scallop and truffle a little teeny tiny, The menu is extensive and there is a range of blackboard specials in the $20 - $30 range. We dined here on a Sunday night when it wasnt particularly busy. The food was tasty and generally good, although the gnocchi was well over salted. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing and inconsistent. We either had to stop a waiter from whisking away our glasses before we were finished or had to try to find a waiter to provide service. We were left with the desert menus for ages with not a waiter in sight. We gave up on ever thinking we were going to be able to order desert and decided to leave. But then we actually had to go up to the front counter to find someone to give us the bill. For the prices being charged, Tutto Bene needs to do better.
Have eaten here a couple of times and always impressed with the menu, range of.vegetarian options, quality of ingredients and friendly, attentive service.I had a great mushroom risotto chosen from about 6-8 options. I was really impressed by the eggplant chips which had a delicious herb coating and were cooked to perfection. The other standout was the sensational tiramisu - perfect contrast between the thick, rich cream, great coffee/liqueur flavour and a beautiful texture, plus the serving size was very generous.

A great restaurant with a true Italian cuisine given an antipodean twist. Not a slavish copy but a real reinterpretation. The atmosphere is busy, noisy, friendly, Italian. The food is great - faithful to the ingredients and having some imagination. A barrimundi tartare entree recommended by the waiter (an Aussie on the staff) was a star dish - taste texture and flavour all combined.All courses delivered their promise.Service is busy - friendly - timely - what more could you ask for in a restaurant?
Mrs and I decided on Italian for our last dinner in Melbourne. Tutto Bene in Southland is where we ended up. Mrs had the porchetta and I had the cavatelli. The pork was indeed awesome. I wish I could say the same about the chicken/pasta or cavatelli. Italian food is usually too salty and the cavatelli was no exception. But I was really disappointed with the amount of skin and gristle in the cavatelli. Yikes!The Kasaura Montepilciano helped wash it all down. Probably wouldn't return.
We had the chicken pasta, lasagna and rocket salad and all was delicious. Sat at a beautiful riverside table. Waiters were lovely. Only curious thing was we were told on the way in at about 8pm that only pastas and risotto available and nothing else on the menu. A man who arrived after us was served fish and other things from the rest of the menu...may be a reason but curious all the same as we had our hearts set on other things on the menu. Would return though.
Lovely menu and choice for anyone gluten free. Service is haphazard. Not terribly attentive. One person took the order and then other staff delivered wine, food, desserts and topped up the water. Not given advice on all the specials. Need to concentrate on service.

Many years of travelling to wonderful Melbourne has often begun with this stalwart opening night meal - Tutto Bene is an oldie but goodie - standards have never dropped and one of the best risotto menus anywhere - brava!
Lovely Italian meal with a nice wine. Staff helpful & efficient. Overlooks Yarra river with pleasant decor.
