U Casanu - Réserver une table

Looking like a small Parisian restaurant with it’s very warm and welcoming feel as you go by, we were excited to book a table. We were extremely surprised at how basic the food was and by that I mean that it was very simplistic and...sadly a bit bland. The sardine anchovy entree was just anchovies laid on top of lettuce leaves, the vegetable fritter entree was just a large pile of fried vegetables. Most disappointing was the fish cous cous which was some bony fish on top of some very basic and very bland cous cous. It was not terrible but when you pay 100 euros for a dinner for 2 you do feel a little resentful when you consider what you were served. Totally not how you want to feel after goi...

Having read other reviews, we visited this restaurant early at 7pm we were the first ones there. The place is very small and we took a table on the pavement to watch the world go by. The waitress did not speak English, was friendly...and happy to help guess our French! We ordered the recommended octopus and lamb cutlets. As we waited, we could hear the food sizzling in the kitchen as it cooked. Both dishes tasted superb the octopus was especially good tender and delicious. My spouse and I were in Calvi for overnight, therefore our selection of the restaurant was planned with care. U Casanu caught the eye by its simple decoration, cozy and intimate atmosphere, creating the expectation of family home dishes. Not at least our decision was...influenced by the high rating in social media. The items on the menu list were limited, but this is not unusual for family restaurants. My wife 's selection was a couscous with fish, mine selection was octopus ragu. The octopus was fresh and soft, but the ragu sauce was nothing special, I would say mediocre. we had a hairdresser there in calvi. we first tried the marinated anchovies that were beautiful and tasty. then we had two grilled squiden and one dorade, they were wonderful. also the desserts were nice. Maybe the bill was a little more expensive. as expected, but overall we had a very good experience.

Surprisingly the restaurant was not busy having read the TA reviews and no signature dish of octopus. A fellow diner informed us that the restaurant had changed hands which probably explains why. Meal ok but we were expecting more having read reviews.
