My family and I have been loyal fans of Umai since they first opened, enjoying many glasses of wine, beer, and whisky shared with Chef Ray while indulging in some of the best sushi in the area, if not the entire eastern USA. It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. During the shutdowns and pandemic, we were all encouraged to support our local small businesses, especially restaurants. The best sushi bar in this area. Very friendly staff. If you?re at the bar, they?ll talk to you as they work. The Restaurant atmosphere is like a favorite yet-undiscovered local treasure. Pay attention to the artful presentation that Chef Ray puts into his food. My friend told me that this place is the last place that she wants to eat before she dies. I was here with my wife on the late night of a typical Wednesday. No one was there because we arrived almost at 9 pm but they greeted us nicely. All the waitstaff and sushi man was very friendly and welcoming even though we were late. We had $65 omakase. How in the world does this place have such a high rating? This is probably one of the absolute worse sushi restaurant I've ever been to in my life. I ordered the lunch special sushi and sashimi box. PLEASE look at my pictures. The rice to fish ratio is completely off. There salmon is swallowing the rice ball. Also...check out the sashimi. They look like leftover cuts. They aren't in uniform shape...some are even stringy. I think they just took a pile of leftover cuts from Réservez une table maintenant
Without a doubt, this restaurant has the best sushi and sashimi in the area. The quality of Umai's fish consistently surpasses any I've tried in my travels around the country. Chef Rae is inventive and skillful in his preparation, and Clara provides attentive and caring service, creating a delightful dining experience. That's why we frequent this place once a week.
Amazing! From the friendly welcome when you enter the restaurant from Chef Rae and his team, to each perfectly prepared and delicious sushi and sashimi dish presented so elegantly. It's a fantastic dining experience that I enjoy weekly, and sometimes even more often.
