Despite the nice design of the restaurant and the busy atmosphere, the service was absolutely atrocious; the worst I've encountered in my Europe trip. We arrived at dinner time and checked with the waitress if there was a table available. She confirmed there was one table free in the outdoor area, but as we sat down we were informed by another staff that the table was reserved and we have to sit inside. I'm usually generous when it comes to the restaurant's review. But yesterday, I swore that I will never visit this restaurant again. We were very excited to visit Umami to have tasty sushi and sashimi. Service was nice. And seasoning of tuna tartar and tempura was also tasty.... Sushi and sashimi looked also as we expected... it cost us around 100euro for the dinner. We thought it's ok for that chic atmosphere and good food....BUT, on the way home, we became SICK. Located in the heart of the city, close to the main station. Modern design. Some tables are not very comfortable.Food is ok but nothing to write home about. The sushi were ok, fresh. But the rolls were not really tasty. Also the seaweed salad was not really convincing.For me the main issue is the service. The manager is not very friendly. Despite the nice location and atmosphere in the restaurant itself it has a very bad service as we were served by a waiter who had a bad sense of humour and an inappropriate demeanour for such a high price restaurant. We went there due to my mums birthday and she herself had some issues afterwards as her wine was too warm and the price to high in her opinion. The food itself is OK but one plate was completely forgotten by the waiter and later he told us we should have told him before that something was missing even though we waited 30 minutes for a sole plate !!! Located close to the Station and the Shops, so good for a break during Shopping. Nice outside seating. Food is OK but not really great. I had a salad which was good (good Dressing), then a Sushi platter - the fish was OK from a quality and taste perspective, but just average. The rice of the Sushi is not really good (does not seem to be fresh, to hard etc.).Wine list is OK.Service is OK, some waiters are friendly, some are not (tend to be arrogant).....I hope you are lucky to get one of the friendly ones...)Well there is not that much choice of Sushi places in Konstanz so still OK for a Shopping break, but not worth for a detour.
I visited the Umami restaurant few days ago with my wife and 3 children. As it was a nice day and we were late at time to arrive at the place we did not find a sit outside so we had to sit inside. Upto that point everything was smooth. The problem arose when the waiter arrived. Realising that we could not speak German he got this arrogant posture, he ignored us completely and he did not even bother to bring us menus. When we stood up to leave after 25 minutes without any attention, he did not even bother to say anything. Rasism should NOT be tolerated by anyone. Keep away from the place unless you look and speak german...
The sushi is good and it is a nice place, Very close to the station so conveniently located for train travellers. The Umami sushi and sashimi menu is a bit big (in particular the spicy tuna rolls) so if you combine this with a miso soup and some little side dishes it is sufficient for two people. The green tea in a little pot is very good, but a bit small. service is good, but it seems a bit on the slow side if you are in a hurry.
The food was very tasty and very well presented. Food-wise I would certainly visit again. However, the service was OK and the floor manager was one of the most unfriendliest people/managers I've seen in a while at a restaurant. The employees were very under pressure from him and they were criticised in front of the guests.

The Umami is located in the old town of Konstanz and is a beautifully decorated restaurant. We ate Edamame, the Naughty Anand and the Tofu Tower Roll. Everything was really delicious and we were fed up. The staff was very nice.
The food is very good and quite fresh. The service is also quite good. The only drawback is the portions are a bit small.
