This is a high quality restaurant with attentive staff. It is suitable for a special celebration of quiet dinner. There is a fixed price menu for around £60 with plenty, or even too much, choice. Canapes came first followed by amazing bread rolls with 2 types of butter delicious. The lobster starter, with supplement, was sublime but I found the scallops rather ordinary and lacking taste. Fillet steak was tender and served with interesting vegetables although I felt the need to include mouthwatering braised steak on the plate a bit of overkill detracting from the main course. We booked the Venture for my husband’s birthday. We had not been there since it had been refurbished. They have done the refurbishment very well. The decor suits the place. The menu, as ever, was fabulous. We were spoilt for choice. A beautiful fish hors douevres, was followed by a very generous helping of turbot and asparagus with Parma ham In a delicious creamy sauce. A light pudding of meringue followed. Then coffee with home made petit fours. Considerate and knowledgeable staff added to the experience. This is a real jewel in the crown of a restaurant. This is the first time I have eaten here after the refurbishment. It was nice to see that it is still the quaint, beamed restaurant I love. Everything was spot on, as always. The food is superb. My monkfish was perfect. The staff are pleasant and efficient. The only small comment is the lack of table cloths now. I thought the place mats looked a bit cheap. A table cloth somehow gives it a bit more class. A minor criticism, and one that will certainly not stop me from going back.
This was our second visit but certainly won’t be our last. Not cheap but worth every penny. They just get everything right and we loved the new decor. Lovely staff, imaginative and extensive menu cooked to perfection. And an intimate cosy atmosphere. I couldn’t fault anything even the homemade bread was amazing! Already trying to justify a reason to go back soon… so lucky to have this place within a 5 minute drive.
