Verdugo had always been our favourite restaurant in Periana, but a lot has changed since our last visit in August '17. There has been a change of management. The menu, quality of the food, and the decor remain the same, and the prices still reflect great value for money. What is lacking is the friendliness of the service. The new waiter, Julio, is doing his best to keep up the standards set by his predecessor Antonio, but the two girls who work with him could not be less enthusiastic about their jobs if they tried. Purely on the basis of the lack of a welcoming smile, I 've reduced Verdugo from a five star rating to a three star. The business holds a key place in society in Periana, and is a social hub. It deserves better staff than it has at the moment.
Chicken skewers looked good, so 4 out of 6 of us had them. 2 arrived raw, ok so we all make mistakes but when we asked for them to be cooked or changed, we just received a “no problem”, no apology or concern, just reheated stuck back on the plate. They were very tasty, but we were a little concerned by how laid back they were! If it wasn’t for my wife who spotted it, I would have probably even half of the chicken before I realised, so it could have been much worse. The other 2 meals were v good. It was just their whole attitude! Don’t let this put you off going just check it’s cooked! Enjoy.
We visited during the town's Feria week and while we were early afternoon and the crowds weren't big Verdugo was busy with locals having some quiet drinks along wi animated conversation. The cafe/restaurant has outside space overlooking a church and some breathtaking countryside so is well worth it. It's also sufficiently shaded. We shared some decent, good value tapas.
