Walter's River Cafe

Walter's Café is in a beautiful spot at Point Walter, with a lovely view of the river so we decided to book for Mother's Day lunch. Our daughter and her two children aged 3yrs and 6yrs came with us. My husband ordered an entrée sized plate of calamari with a side of hand-cut chips, I ordered a green salad with chips, my daughter ordered salmon and the two grandchildren each had a child-sized serving of fish and chips. We were all very disappointed. Lots of signs on the windows about what to do and what not to do - always a let down. Rude waitress, rude service, not interested in serving anyone with menus thrown on the table. They do breakfast in one of the best places in Perth but don't open until 8.00am - doors not unlocked when we tried to get in and they were clearly not ready. It is on the water front but you cannot have sand on your feet or wet feet or you are not allowed in. When asked what sort of bread the fruit bread was - the response was "no complaints so far" I wonder why there were only 8 people in there on a beautiful summers morning on a gorgeous river this close to xmas. Visited yesterday after yoga in the park. None of us had cash, but I had my card in my phone. Arrive to see a "cash only" sign, with ATM in corner. Went to get my OWN money out, and got walloped with a $2.90 charge. I have an issue with anywhere refusing cash (tax dodge??), then providing a non financial ATM, with such an exorbitant user fee. It is unacceptable, that in this day and age, to not provide EFTPOS facilities. I could perhaps understand paying more for a coffee, but felt the $5 price tag for coffee was already inclusive of recouping some of the costs of EFTPOS. Shame, as it is a great location, but I won't be rushing back there for coffee anytime soon, will be packing a take away....

I have lived near this Cafe for your years and always enjoyed the view and food. I took the previous commentator there and was really embarrassed. I too had the brushcetta - $20 for a slice of bread, tomatoes and egg which all had no taste (no seasoning!). Since when are poarched eggs served on a board? The young staff did not seem interested in our feedback.This is council property licensed to the operators. The original family cafe concept seems to have been replaced by high-priced but poor food. Cafe is in a beautiful spot on the river with water sports and a good play ground for the kids.The menu is quite limited and pricey for what it is but the pastry cabinet and coffees are good. The breakfast menu is a lot better than the lunch menu but unfortunately they stop serving breakfast at 11.30am.I've seen a lot of reviews from people saying they've had bad service, however, I've been here many times and the service has always been casual but friendly and helpful.

The staff at best can be described as casual, at worst surly and disinterested.The venue is lovely, bright and open. The food is very ordinary and the coffee I had was burnt. The prices reflect the view not the food.It is a lovely place to sit and enjoy a bottle of wine looking at the view of the river but don't go expecting anything special regarding the food.

Visited for breakfast. The location and views are fantastic. Service was friendly and fast. The food was very good too. We had the bubble and squeak and the breakfast burger. Meals were filling without being too large and everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely return. Réservez une table maintenant

Fomos para um brunch, eles têm algumas opções que inclusive dão para compartilhar. O preço não é muito barato, mas a qualidade é muito boa. Destaque para os cafés, que vêm em umas xícaras enormes! E o local fica de frente para o rio, tem uma vista belíssima

Lovely location let down by standard of food and prices. Did have a friendly and helpful waiter who had a laugh and a joke. Judging by previous reviews this seems unusual. Was very busy when I visited but does need to up its game.
