I was a bit surprised at the high prices at this sushi restaurant in Winnipeg. A very large selection of items on their menu, especially if you are interested in trying out different types of sushi rolls. My one observation was that all of their signature rolls contain crab or cooked shrimp vs the traditional raw fish and I was more surprised at their expensive prices given that the cooked items aren't as pricey as the raw fish.Our party of 6 ordered the $125 sushi sampler and to my surprise there were very few pieces of raw fish for the $125 price you pay. My wife and I often choose Wasabi Sabi on Taylor in Winnipeg when we want a great Sushi/Sashimi dining experience; especially if we want to take friends to someplace nice. We went for dinner and had a great meal this time, just as in the past. The rolls were excellent, as was the sea food platter, though we were disappointed in seeing that the platter that was supposed to feed six hardly did so, but it did cost $125! My wife and I have visited here twice in the last two weeks, living in the Uk we can seldom get our hands on good sushi!In summary, the food here is absolutely top notch, it is made in front of you by friendly kitchen staff, and in a timely but I rushed manner.The restaurant and bar are both intimate and romantic, which sets it apart from the majority of sushi places.Lastly, the service was absolutely brilliant. My mom and I were trying to find a restaurant that was open around 3pm for lunch - couldn't seem to find anything that we liked and so we tried Wasabi - Surprise!! They don't close, they stay open all afternoon (the one on Broadway is closed from 2-4pm); We got a great table in the back of the restaurant, our server was fantastic! He knew when to come and go and was not just lingering.. Food is expensive but a little better when you can have the lunch menu - Food is so good! Sushi to die for! Had the ginger brule for desert! My partner and I celebrated a special event on December 17th with martinis and some of the best sushi ever at Wasabi Sabi. Spicy prawn appetizer was 'close your eyes' delectable. The warm wasabi roll was so good...and both nigiri and sashimi (tuna and salmon) was truly 'melt in your mouth'. Both the chocolate bliss and the lemon curd desserts topped off a perfect meal. Service was outstanding and ambience warm.
Very high end sushi. Although the prices do reflect this. In my opinion it's worth every penny. I have eaten at dozens of sushi places and as far as taste goes, wasabi sabi blows the other places out of the water . So fresh, great flavour, so well put together .I have brought many friends here and they all agree it's not just the best sushi in the city , it's actually the best tasting food they have ever had.
Had dinner last night and was very tasty. Shrimp and mango is not to be missed. Everything was fresh and clean tasting. Chefs were out in the open displaying their skills and staff were wonderful. We ate in the restaurant as the seats in the lounge were too low for some of us to be comfortable in, although the lounge did look like fun. We we go back as soon as we can.
