Again, we had walked 27 km from Cochem and descended from the vineyards to the place. The building ensemble is not overlooked in the smaller part of the town and so we quickly stood at the entrance. Around 5 pm we entered on Thursday night and waited very long for someone to check in. That was an older lady, it seems to me, the boss. My family and I had eaten at the Schloss Hotel Restaurant twice before and had decent service and good food... No significant complaints. Then came the group experience... We reserved the outside patio area for a group of approximately 30 and even put in our requested order (they requested we all eat the same meal for their convenience at cooking for such a large party... fine). My family and I had just visited Nanstein castle. We noticed there was a hotel/resturant within walking distance from the castle. As we approched the entrance we noticed there were tables outside with people sipping wine. Once inside, several people were dining and enjoying conversation. There was a very nice salad bar, however it was not your typical american salad bar. It did included romain lettuce, carrott shavings, olives, peppers, cucumbers, diced mushroom, and sweet sundried dates. The dressings included: french, italian, american and a very unique but very good yogart dressing that complemented the vegetables.
