Had been here several times for Afternoon Tea which was great so decided to go for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. On arrival we were asked if we would like a drink and shown to a large public room where it was just us which was surprising for a Saturday evening. Lovely ambience and our table was overlooking the grounds and we were spied upon by a gorgeous peacock. We found the menu very disappointing. Limited in choice. The rolls offered were hard, and it was served with I think truffle butter which we did not like. We decided not to order a starter and went straight to the main course. Apart from Lamb there was no other meat. My husband ordered this and I ordered the Turbot. The lamb was tough and he ended up leaving most of it. My fish was tasteless, but overall with the sauce was okay. I ordered the summer vegetables. These were raw and I could not cut them with a knife so gave up. For dessert I had the roast peach but this was okay but no wow factor. The meal seemed very brown!! Service was good but no-one checked if we liked the meal. I like the history and ambience of the building, but would not go back again for dinner which was very expensive and was certainly not worth it. Stars are for the ambience!
