We all had a great dining experience at The Wheatsheaf. The wild mushroom and chicken satay starters were delicious, as well as the gnocchi main dish. The chicken pie (a special) was also tasty, although some found the beef gravy that came with it to be too salty and not the best pairing with chicken. The service was efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere was nice, although a bit noisy when busy. Overall, we had a very enjoyable meal.
We have been regulars at this pub for several years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and drinks. However, we were let down during our visit today, as the interior was surprisingly cold despite the frigid temperatures outside. Although the pub was quite busy, the fire wasn’t lit, and the radiators offered little warmth. A winter visit to a pub should feel warm and inviting.
We have visited this restaurant several times in the past year, and the food has always been consistently good. During our most recent visit, my wife ordered the hake special and I had the liver and bacon, both of which were delicious. The service was friendly, although we did have to request water three times.
