For whatever reason, sourcing beef cheeks locally has been tough. I'm in DC, but for whatever reason, search beef cheeks online, and White Oak Pastures pops up. I ordered 10 packs, and some pork belly. I'm a huge fan of offset smoking, and grilling, and had plans to make Barbacoa tacos. These cheeks were not like the fatty lower quality cuts you might find, however, it took over 24 hours of smoking and braising to get the collagen broken down and the cheeks fork tender. Order #108565I ordered 2 packs of beef tendon. When I received the package yesterday I was excited to try my first order. When I opened the styrofoam box a wave of hot humid air came out and hit me in the face. I knew that there was no way I could eat anything in there. I looked inside and found a plastic bag that says “ice” on it but no signs of melted ice or any pool of water. There was some moisture but probably from the melting of the tendon package. Clearly there wasn’t enough water inside the box to show me that there was enough ice in the bag for the journey. The package of tendons were warmer than the temperature of my hands.. The quality of the meat and other products here is exceptional, including beef, candles, leather goods, and even tasty animal products! They practice sustainable farming, which is impressive. The candles are absolutely incredible! I only wish we had enough time to stay for lunch at their café. There’s so much to do, including farm tours and accommodation options. Be sure to check out their website. It's definitely a hidden gem. The family owners and the staff were all very friendly! Don’t miss the chance to watch them; you’ll see how enthusiastic they are about what they do!
it wasn't really what I expected after I looked at her website. they have a nice little land, general store setup, but my family and I were in the ground shoved past the way, which seemed to be a budding native who crowded the place. I don't know if that's the normal thing, but some people who were obviously not tourist seemed to mill around in the load waiting for food from a food snack from the back. if you want to look past natives to extremely high price drinks and unique food items, this could be place for them. This was a fantastic stop during our trip! They offered handmade honey, jellies, sweets, jerky, fruits, and a variety of other local products. There were also lovely high-quality agricultural items like leather jewelry and wallets. The homemade cakes and brownies were delicious too! The outdoor area had a really nice setup with plenty of casual seating, and there was even a horse bar nearby. I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area!
I recently had a meal after my job in New Jersey, and everything tasted delicious. You can really tell the difference between their grass-fed meats and others that aren’t. My second visit didn’t go as smoothly due to a delay, but I understand that things happen. They resolved the issue, so I’m giving them 5 stars for their fantastic customer service, which perfectly matches their delicious meat! I’ll be ordering from here every month!
Have purchased several products in the past year or so including beef pork and chicken ,all fantastic except the chicken. It is leathery tough and sinewy no matter how it is cooked unless in a crock pot. I emailed customer service and the response was hopefully you will try our chicken again. Should be advertised as old stewing hens not suitable for the grill or smoker.
The steak was tender enough to cut w a butter knife. The spicy chicken quesodillas were tender yet crispy on the outside, full of gooey cheese and had the perfect amount of heat. Everyone here was pleasant, friendly, welcoming and eager to help. The animals were very well cared for, and the shopping selection exceeded my expectation. Clean, scenic, great for kids.
