"Typical German hostelry in the main square and until they wound up the sun umbrellas we were enjoying the sunshine on a very cold May Saturday. Stopped for coffee and cake mid-morning and enjoyed it.A peek inside suggested that all was in order in the restaurant too - but we decided on somewhere else for lunch overlooking the town. Was not overly impressed by the loos though. We were joined at our table by a lucky black cat that seemed to like our rhubarb cake."

We ordered 2 lamb steaks which were served to us after 45 mins. After having waited for so long, we expected a good meal. What we got were 2 steaks which were absolutely uncooked : even the knife could not go through them. It was just impossible to eat them. We called the waitress and explained the problem to her. She took them back, but returned again after about 25 mins. With the same lamb steaks. Once again we tried to cut them, but the knife would not go through them. As we were ravenous by then, we just ate the accompaniment of potatoes and asked for the bill. We had to pay 40 Euros for this terrible lunch! Please do not recommend this restaurant to anybody. It sucks!!!!

We stopped for dinner in mid-January and had a good experience. The Sauerbraten and Jungschwein Filet were both excellent and service was prompt. Katie, our server, gave us good insight into the restaurant and also took us on a tour of the Keller, which is a two level pair of rooms that are well decorated and look like they would be ideal for a party or just an interesting place to eat. Outside seating is also apparently available in good weather. The restaurant is located right on the market square and is an easy walk from the parking areas in the old town. We would definitely return for a meal.

Highly recommended! We had a fabulous meal with good wine, and attentive service. Our waiter recommended a perfect wine to accompany the salmon, which was exquisite, as was the “Meißner Schwarzbier-Goulasch”. I had an extremely imaginative mixed salad on the side. The strawberry and panna cotta desert was prepared to order for my husband and did not disappoint. All very worthwhile, at a good price, and in a historic 600-year-old buiding in the market place, formerly the Burgermeister’s house and containing St Benno’s Fountain in one of the 3 wine cellars.
