Wirtshaus Zum Hirschenwirt

Full disclosure: I live now in Germany so my thoughts are based on my two years living oversees. Zum Hirschenwirt is a traditional Austrian restaurant. Menu selection is limited by American standards but their offerings are sufficient to satisfy many palates. Portions are pretty good size. Stiegl beer is the choice but they have a good variety of wines, as well. Our waiter spoke great English and there were no issues with communications. The only drawback was the night we ate there, the restaurant was uncomfortably warm. Perhaps it was because of an unseasonably warm winter day but even after sweaters were removed, we were still hot. Great little place this with good service and more than adequate food. I just can't remember what we all had to eat but we drank quite a lot as well and the beer was as good as always! It was convenient for us as we were staying just along the street and didn't want to go back into town as we had been there all day and anyway best value is out of the centre. We had starters, main courses and some shared desserts plus the beer and wine and it worked out at 35 euros each for the six of us - not bad for a last night blow out!

We have our first supper in Salzburg on the first day there~ The service here is perfect, besides, the atmosphere is suitable to enjoy the meals or just have some drinks, not only for families, but for couples^^ what's more, the dishes here is awesome! The Austrian cuisine is extremely authentic, the "Trout", one of the main staples we have that day, in particular. Good to taste the authentic Austrian food~

We visited here a few evenings ago as we knew the staff wore tradition dress.The food was traditional Austrian and service warm and efficient.I had turkey and saffron risotto. My husband had wild boar stew with red cabbage.Being Christmas it was very busy with large parties. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. We had a lovely evening and the food was good.

We stayed in the hotel next door - We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of the food. After eating we then sat in the bar and had a drink, wish we had gone in here earlier on our trip as there was a great atmosphere here. Food was just like eating home cooked food. Loved it and was reasonable too.

Had dinner here last night food was lovely, portion sizes where excellent you don't leave hungry. Staff couldn't help you enough especially the young lady waitress Would defiantly recommend. Prices are very good and you need to either book or get there early as it gets very busy.

High stand of food with loads of flavour and choices. Very reasonable prices. Appreciated the non smoking section of the restaurant. Book or you may find everyone else has found this lovely place and you will not get a table. Had the Weiner Snitzel and Version Stew.

Ate here both nights of our visit as most top rated trip advisor restaurants in the city centre were fully booked. Food was of a high standard, Slightly quiet & formal but overall the experience was very good.

We order Radler and it's the best beer ever! The food are good, staff is so friendly can see them always smile and energetic. We had pleasant experience so far.

Nice service and food in the biergarten behind the hotel, and a very nice apfelstruddel for dessert????
