Zach 's Bistro was a revelation. We were expecting a rather ordinary meal and received the most interesting and well-prepared meal that I have had in years. I say interesting in the sense that everything had something unexpected or a twist on the usual that was both wonderful and surprising. Best of all, everything was gluten free and safe for me to eat. The chestnut soup, clam chowder, fried market fish, potatoes, squash, and perfectly cooked broccolini were all terrific. Even the butter tasted more buttery than any we 've ever had. We have been here twice now and both times have been among the most memorable culinary experiences we have ever had. Both times, we opted for the 6 course chef's choice meal and both times we found ourselves exclaiming our love for each course and the paired wines. We had a fantastic 45th anniversary dinner at Chef Zach's restaurant. We arrived early and had the opportunity to chat with him about his ingredients and dishes. He shared a fun story about the nettles in the chermoula sauce coming from a farm in southern Oregon run by hippies. It was great to see that culture thriving and succeeding. The menu featured ling cod, my favorite fish, which made our trip to Newport for fresh seafood a success. I highly recommend Zach's for beautifully prepared dishes using both familiar and unique local ingredients, and for the entertaining conversation with the chef.
We had a lovely Christmas set menu at Zach’s Bistro and would love to go back for a normal meal! As other reviewers mentioned, Zach is running the show himself so the experience is more like a gourmet meal at a friend’s place rather than a traditional restaurant—and that’s so refreshing and unique! Great cocktails and fresh, delicious, thoughtfully prepared dishes. Zach is clear and direct with his reservation system and menu, and we loved the unique offerings, like Rhode Island clam chowder and roasted chestnut soup. My husband and I went to Zach’s for our anniversary. I chose this place based on the reviews and we were not disappointed in the least! Zach was an amazing host. It’s a one man show all the way but he was very inviting and attentive the entire time we were there. The crab cakes were amazing. The best we’d ever had anywhere. The lamb chops were so tender and flavorful. Honestly if you want fine dining but with a “dinner at my friends house” feel. Zach’s is the place to go! And he has great N/A wine and cider choices too.
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The flavor combinations were unexpected and magical. I am glad I tried the chef's wine pairings. Two I never would have picked on my own that were both delicious and a perfect match for my meal. The courses with the half size options for salads and starters are a genius way to get to try more things without being overly full. Go curious and flow with the experience.
Zero atmosphere, and very cold. Had to go get jacket out of the car. One employee that did it all. Ribeye steak over cooked, unseasoned and full of fat. The Brussel sprouts were burnt as was some type of purée starch. Service disorganized. Brought our pre-ordered selections (required) to different tables twice. Just a cold, sterile and unpleasant experience.
The food, service, menu, presentation, and atmosphere were amazing! Great wine menu, tasty cocktails, fantastic service with perfect timing, and delicious seafood. We loved every part of the meal, the cozy atmosphere, the views, and the allergy friendly options! Chef Zach seems very knowledgeable, talented, and skilled at all aspects of his work.

Absolutely incredible food, all local and seasonal! One man operation, so don't expect a super quick turnover, but it's 100% worth your patience for the quality and variety. Plus, unmatched options for allergies and gluten-free folks. I'd happily go out of my way to come here again.
I was pleasantly surprised by the pastrami sandwich here. The red potatoes were perfectly seasoned and my wife loved her salad and shrimp. Overall, a very satisfying meal.
