Stayed at the hotel and ate here the first night. Enjoyed it so much ate here again. There are English menus but worth checking the German menu for the specials. Service is very good and staff are friendly. It gets a bit hectic when it is busy but they are quick if you remind them they have forgotten anything. We had the schnitzel with a large very fresh salad and the very popular fish rosti with beetroot and horseradish. The following evening we had the Swabian speciality trio of spetzle with cheese, cabbage parcels and a ravioli style dish which was delicious and very filling and a very tender liver with saute potato and vegetables. We had an excellent and fresh salad and beef soup with liver spaetzle. Followed by the main course: deer ragout with hand-made spaetzle. A copious and very tasty meal which kept us alive for hours. After all this we couldn't take a dessert but an espresso. Restrooms are modern and super clean while the dining hall with its wooden panels exudes tradition. An elder Ravensburger sent us to the place when we asked for good local food and we are indebted to his pointers. Coming from Switzerland we found the prices very reasonable.
We came to this restaurant before exploring museums of Ravensburg city. The restaurant seem local favorites as it packed during lunch time. We order from wine , leber spaetzle , duck with red sauerkraut, cheese spaetzle and vegetarian noodles with champignon sauce. The taste was ok not so special the cheese spaetzle is too thick and not enough cheese. But the beer and the wine is great as always in Germany
Having eaten in a few places in Ravensburg we returned to Zum Engel. Situated in the centre square it is a lovely old building.The food is traditional Swabian and this time I enjoyed the steak with onions and cheese noodles (cannot remember an cannot spell the true German spelling).If you do end up in Ravensburg this is a restaurant I would whole heartedly recommend. My friends from Ravensbrug wanted to introduce me to local food ,They brought me to Zum EngelThe interior is typical German,The food was great we had different local dishes and they were all very good.If you want some typical food from there i would definitely recommend it .One tip, kitchen is closed at 22.00
Situated in the heart of Ravensburg we had a salad with tuna and veal all from the daily recommandations. The tuna was from the can, the salad crunchy because it wasn't washed properly (stones in the salad!). The veal was not that bad but was drowned in sauce. Overall not a great performance.
